Yes. Another term is “nominal” whatever religion. That can mean, “I’ll go along with most of Catholicism, but I won’t go to church”, or “I believe in birth control and disagree with many of the CC’s stances, but I’m not ready to call myself a protestant.”

We also have a term in Hungary, “census Catholic”, which is anyone, whether baptized or not, who has nothing to do with Catholicism, but declares themselves Catholic at time of census, just because. It does not make them Catholic, but oh well.

Actually, no, the numbers are likely much lower, as I’m counted in that number, and so are my kids, and we don’t reside in Ireland at this time. I do happen to know that several Hungarian Jews are working in Cork, and they might have upped the numbers as well.

Yes, yes, and we are very proud of him. But Jews have pretty much left Ireland, with like two barely functional congregations left in Dublin, and a small one that hardly ever has a minyan in Cork.
