I used this word once in the company of my co-worker & her parents (using it as defined by Hubbard, i.e. a non-scn) — and I can tell you that their reaction was as if I had just screamed the ‘n’ word. I mean seriously, to them, it is a very nasty word, now, today still… I went home & googled my fingers off. They, of course, had never heard it used in relation to scientology. It is still listed as a derogatory word in many on-line slang dictionaries from OZ. but ok then. cheers, Q

Yes – during the 80s comedians of Greek, Italian, Spanish and Lebanese heritage in particular largely reclaimed the word wog. Google “Wog Boy” and “Wogs out of work”.

It would have been an ugly term at the time Hubbard was using it. Australia had significant post war immigration from Mediterranean countries, and they were on the receiving end of “wog” as a derogatory term. I have NEVER heard anyone from Asian heritage called a wog – we have her ugly terms for those people.

A couple of generations later, their grandchildren use the word for a fonder mockery of the idiosyncracies of their Mediterranean subculture in Australia.

Besides, ‘wogs’ are accepted now, as are the Vietnamese who came in waves in the 70’s. Now its Muslim immigration that people worry about. In another 20 years people will be worried about someone else.

Alice, thanks for sharing this. To the extent that it may give us some inside perspective and knowledge, assuming it’s well-founded, it’s interesting and even useful. I have wondered if speculation about Marty’s motivations and actions hasn’t taken into consideration the possibility that for some reason, Monique had insisted he withdraw from having anything related to do with Scientology. It would also serve to explain the general suspicion that some people have voiced, that Rathbun is being blackmailed somehow.
This is an example of the sort of thing that seems plausible and that perhaps would even explain the situation better than anything else, but that apparently no one ever came up with amidst all the speculation.
And that’s not to defend Rathbun in any respect, or say that it provides a satisfactory explanation for everything we’ve seen.

Evidently trying to suggest only critcisizing public figure he considered to have a mental deficit. Alleging he is not making money off of church. Attempts to justify as modus operendi for entire set of actions since leaving “church.”

Thanks for expanding on this, Tony. Going after Miscavige personally has been the impetus for all Marty did after leaving and going public. Additionally, my understanding of Marty – why he does what he does, as an reader of his writings and from my being a former long time scientologist – is that Marty is a classic case of someone who thinks he knows best. it’s a feature of Narcissism and those who refused to acknowledge their own ignorance, and a feature of the scientologist mindset when looking at the “wog world”. Because he was able to rise to such levels and be privy & part of such secretive information and acts over his years in Scientology, especially those through to his working with Miscavige, this ‘know it all’ attitude seems to have became larger than life to an almost point of delusion. My opinion, of course. People have tried unsuccessfully to get Marty to, respond to their questions, to listen to other points of view in the realm of blog discourse, and he either attacks or ignores most, to know avail. Hubbard did this, as well. Ignoring perceived ‘entheta’.

Scientologists think they know best & ‘wogs’ are inferior. I don’t see that Marty has ever completely shed that idea despite some progress made by evidence in some of his writings & actions; It’s still at his core to be right and know best, thereby everyone else is wrong, especially when it comes to legal matters. He truly considers himself an expert and never had much respect for the ‘wog’ attorneys he was forced to deal with when he was in the SO. To me it was very predictable that he would just not bother to mention it to the perceived ‘less able being’ Jeffrey Ray, and go to the deposition alone.

I also suspect that Miscavige has something on him to cause him to do the recent turn-arounds; perhaps something is being used against him for some NDA he had previously signed but since violated somewhere within his rants and articles about his times with and for Miscavige. I think it’s terrible what he and Monique have said & done regarding attorneys Ray Jeffreys and team. And in the Israeli lawsuit case against such nice people. I suspect Monique was willing to give it up if they just left her & her family alone but I am certain she would do whatever Marty felt was best. Marty would have allowed the case to proceed to the bitter end to get back at Miscavige but something had to have changed for Marty to then have Monique end the case and on such a terrible note. So I agree, we may find out more of significance down the road, to explain all this and get a better picture of his mindset. I give no excuses for his behavior and acts. I care about Mosey and the baby, collateral damage in the Rathbun v Miscavige war or visa versa. Hope to see more followup articles about Marty on The Underground Bunker
