Thank you stillgrace2, I spent sometime deciding what word would fit as I did not recall his full name. Faulty memory! I guess gentleman could be seen as gentle man, but I always liked rascal. I am sad that they are not here, but wish them love and peace wherever they journey. ❤️

Once Born, from what I can tell the missions situation was very complex, with some people really starting to go off in strange directions, and others rather astutely trying to correct the ways in which Scientology was hobbling itself. Hubbard and his top managers may well have thought they could do better by cutting out the middleman, so to speak, and Scientology did apparently reach peak size afterwards around 1990.
By the way, my analysis is that Hubbard cynically decided to exercise more heavy-handed control about 1965, but that it took time to work out and implement. The price increases were instituted around 1977, but crush sales came in around the early 1970s, so I’m not sure when it might be said that Hubbard decided to go for a strategy of less volume but higher cash yield, but at some point Scientology did effectively switch to working that way.
I do suspect that at the end Miscavige (and Broeker) must have realized that Hubbard was losing it, and probably started acting more on their own initiative, and even ignoring some craziness. Whether Miscagive just did what he thought needed to be done to keep Hubbard’s organization under control, or actually abused his position and manipulated Hubbard, I think is hard to say without testimony from someone who was there.
