There was no mortgage crisis in the Clinton Administration. It is a right-wing meme that Clinton single-handedly (with no reference to the Republican-controlled Congress) “forced” banks to lend to unworthy people who were never going to be able to pay the loans back. Of course no-one made the banks do anything. They did operate under the rosy scenario that the improving prospects for the homebuyers under the Clinton economy would continue, without anticipating the Bush administration’s sharp turn back to crushing the middle class. Obama did a fine job expanding the number of private-sector jobs and raising their pay, obviously more slowly than we would have liked (some cooperation from the other side would have helped) but far superior to the negatives which Bush racked up even before the bottom dropped out.

Since the mortgage crisis was created by Democrats during the Clinton administration, I take it that you are blaming them for the intentional destruction of the middle class that you allege. 0bama certainly did a fine job looking out for his Wall Street puppet masters. And Hillary made it clear that she would have faithfully continued down that path.

No President before George W. Bush slashed government revenues while going to war. No President before George W. Bush started two major wars at the same time. He doubled down on the Republican policy since Reagan of making sure that all economic gains go to the already wealthy. You don’t think that the intentional destruction of the middle class had anything to do with people defaulting on their mortgages? This Republican policy of increasing the gap between wealthy and poor to Latin American levels was also seen in the 1890’s and in the 1920’s, both times ending with disastrous collapses of the economy. The principal difference between 1929 and 2008 was that the 1929 crash happened when we had just installed a Republican President, head of the Hoover Institute no less, who had four full years to grind us deeper and deeper into the mud, while 2008 at least happened when the Republican idiot was at the end of his term and could be quickly replaced so that the downward spiral only lasted months instead of years. Still, you are not content that the Republicans threw us into a deep ditch, but want to complain that Obama did not get us out of the ditch quickly enough, in the teeth of a Republican Congress obstructing literally everything he tried to do.

On another note: That’s pretty funny! The housing/mortgage crash goes back to decisions made by the Clinton administration and Dem’s in Congress.
