Freedom mag had not yet begun doing smear pieces on critics while I was in the SO. During the time I was in, the articles seemed legitimate exposes of psychiatric malpractice, rogue government intelligence agencies, etc. The smear pieces didn’t appear until later in the 2000’s (IIRC).

Thank you Mike for all you do. Although my involvement with Scientology was minimal (one course in 1975) it’s important to reveal what was going on then and now. I learn about how to ultimately handle bad situations by watching how people came to the decision to leave an organization that abused them.

Many people have at some point in their lives been in an abusive situation. It didn’t have to be Scientology. The evil practices of Scientology have been around in cults, dictatorships, roving bands of barbarians, etc for millennia.

I am about your age. You look better than me. However, a decade ago when you were starving in the Hole and released to talk to the BBC you looked worse. The creases you had in your face then are gone, and you are no longer gaunt.

It is amazing how much you put up with before deciding to leave, but you knew leaving meant you’d lose your family.

I bought the audiobook and listened to the whole thing while I was remodeling a bathroom. There were moments when I stopped, in shock, and found myself listening rather than working, sitting on the floor, motionless … It’s worth the read and the listen!!!
