What was no doubt a fairly tedious affair is probably made into a Tom Hanks worthy event…where would we be without extra drama?

Thank you for the Air & Space article. I got choked up reading it, particularly the end, where his flight instructor’s widow wrote that his flight instructor would have been proud of him.

I believe that the movie takes license with the NTSB investigation. I don’t think he was subjected to the accusatory tone that the movie portrays, although it is the job of the investigators to consider all of the factors. It’s probably dramatic license, to make the story more interesting.

Since Sully had participated in investigations himself, he knew the drill.

From the article, it appears that the cockpit resource management was pretty damn good. Sully couldn’t do it all himself, so he divided up the workload appropriately in a situation that no one had ever trained for.

Getting the nose down to maintain airspeed is exactly the right first thing to do. Fly the plane, fly the plane, fly the plane. Is what I always tell everyone.

I was once on a motorcycle trip and had my jacket open, when a bee flew into it and stung me. I found myself repeating “fly the plane, fly the plane, fly the plane” as I kept both hands on the handlebars, slowed down and pulled over. instead of swatting at the bee and losing control.
