Mack sounds perfect and FUN – I did the same – the more I grew up, the less the bad boys were attractive. Hubs & I broke up for a bit before we were engaged (he’s younger than I & I was worried he didn’t know what he was getting into) & I dated one last bad boy & was over it VERY fast! So when he came back from a 6mo road project saying all he had was time to think & he knew he wanted to marry me & raise my boys – it was a no brainer!

I know when it changed for me.. I was always attracted to Bad boys. .. and the healthier I got ..and the older I got..

We should be proud – you’re right! And I don’t know HOW you did it because the courts only recently got more involved and more agencies out there to help single parents and families – so yeah, you’re pretty much a superstar! Ugh that’s the feeling I have when seeing what my ex is up to – thank God that’s not me! I knew I wasn’t very good at picking good guys so I had a couple long term boyfriends but it took me a long time to be willing to get married. Thankfully my picker had improved by then! Lol
And yeah – knowing all the anxiety as you’re going through it, it is nice to look at our kids as adults (or almost-adults in my case) and see that we did manage to do a great job while we were trying our best! Obviously, you’ve got some amazing grandkids so clearly you modeled how to raise children well!
I’m so excited to get to HC – we can toast being two bad ass mamajamas! 😂

Oh the struggles we went through.. I tried the legal help route, but Ex got summons and just blew them off.. He was a real control freak.

I don’t see how he can look himself in the mirror. He was an Engineer, but was in and out of jobs. His 2nd wife has worked her butt off for over 40 years..

while he works and gets unemployment etc. That could have been me and I get chills thinking about it. We were so broke when we were married. OMG.. Foodstamps..

and God forbid he take one class AND work too.. ugh

so when I left him we lived in an apt. over a garage, but it was Heaven.

Ohhh a Townhouse.. You lucked out.. wow.

And now our kids adore us ( Well one of mine does..ha) .. and know that we sacrificed a lot ..and they appreciate what they have now. We don’t take anything for granted.

Cocktail waitressing was my saving grace as a single mom… Car breaks down? Pick up an extra shift… Then it was one of my regulars that owned an interactive ad agency & asked me to interview after hearing I had a day job also. During that job I found an ad for on-site PT property manager and that was amazing for the 2-3 years I got to do it. Best single mom 2nd job EVER! Lol

Child support – people who get it in ANY amount don’t understand the struggle for those who don’t! I was laid off but it became a blessing because I ended up referred to a transitional housing program designed for families and single parents at risk for homelessness but don’t qualify for welfare because they work. We rented a great townhome for a max of 1/3 of whatever I made and they provided tons of resources. One resource was legal help which enabled me to finally get CS after 7 years. HUGE blessing! After that I was able to just have one job.
Love that you & Mac are best friends NOT attached at the hip. I’ve known so many women who’ll say things like “I’d never LET my husband…” Um LET? He’s a human being and if you both have hobbies and things you can enjoy separately, why not? Then everyone’s happy, and you appreciate each other because you get the space everyone needs now & again. He sounds pretty awesome, but then he’d have to be to have caught himself a Baby! Xo
