BBB isn’t very useful. They are not a real guv agency. They just charge businesses to use their logo. Might be worth looking into “7 on Your Side” or similar local news org for help. Sometimes local politicians or even the tourist board (since you were visiting) can help. Good luck!

Excellent assessment. The latest book with my name on it has sold around 80,000 copies. With one exception (a book of short stories published on Amazon as an experiment), I’ve had traditional publishers. The real money on books, however, unless you’re writing romances or another “can’t get enough of them” genre, comes from being a personality who writes books and has what publishing calls a “platform.” Marty has that, but as you referenced about the majority of the population, it’s decidedly small. Tony’s book had an extra element to it that made me hope it became at least a TV movie – woman in jeopardy. 20 years ago when I sold some young adult mystery novels, I was asked by an editor at Kensington to write “wom jep” novels. I probably should’ve done it as I’d have made a lot more money, but that’s an example of a genre that keeps selling. The Lifetime Movei Network films are almost entirely about that genre. I didn’t even know Marty had books because I basically didn’t care.

For starters, go listen to him reading it, and let it pour over you a few times. It will reveal itself bit by bit, each time slightly different. Don’t go dissecting and analyzing right away… Feel it.
