I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but there is something to be said for the gub’s coffers being filled by interest incurred on student loans. As far as your first sentence goes, I would love it for people to feel free to pursue a degree of their choosing in any number of fields which hold very little practical value in the real world where ends have to be met. Unfortunately, that’s not the way life works for people other than the self (and otherwise) entitled.

Translation: the costs of a college education at private universities are out of control, and the costs at state subsidized universities are getting there as well. State universities are now admitting more out-of-state residents to increase their revenue. What’s wrong with THAT picture?

Yeah, I guess we will have to leave that to Europe where schooling is FREE. It would sure suck to get an English Lit. degree along with a 250K bill attached to it. I read something recently about the cost of schooling and many, many top universities charge 60K a YEAR. My whole four years at Berkeley in the late 60s cost me a total of 1000 USD for tuition. College has become another way to enroll people into the squirrel cage of debt and ensure they never leave.

Wrap your mind properly around the concept at hand, and which is my point: I am not concerned with individual Muslims… it is Islam that is the problem and that I reject and warn against!

The conspiracy theorist has a kind of inverse relationship with consensus of experts. Regular people have to trust experts. We can’t ALL research every aspect of medicine, nutrition, engineering, politics and a thousand other subjects.

We pick experts to trust. It’s good to understand what you know and what you take on faith. I can’t possibly study everything in subjects like evolution or climate science but I can try to pick scientific sounding ideas.

Conspiracy theorists tend to instinctively reject governments and anyone that agrees with them on anything. It’s instinct. They don’t care if an idea is decades old or centuries old. Some ideas have been held in science for centuries by thousands and thousands of thinkers in many countries and cultures around the world.

Conspiracy theorists seem to accept the simple fact that authorities accept an idea as concrete proof the idea must be false and any alternative that authorities see as unlikely as proven by that alone.

Authorities do get things wrong. For centuries people thought the sun orbited the earth. By survey some people still do. I try to recognize that any ideas could be disproven.

Scientology by any measure of scientific or critical thinking doesn’t measure up for any of its many claims.

Looking at Hubbard’s life, or the results of Scientology, or the criminal conduct of the cult or the thousands of accounts by ex Scientologists that are available gives no credible proof for Scientology.

It’s simply damned by the evidence, and the greater the evidence the greater the damnation.
