I’m sorry your mother was persecuted by the KGB. But that’s not my point.
I am saying that worshipping anything without evidence is delusional behaviour.
And it can and has frequently led to some very bad things.

Besides, the Catholic Church has done its fair share of persecuting. Take Galileo for one example. He dared to question holy writ and ended up in jail for suggesting what we teach today in kindergarten, not to mention university.

You might say that that was a long time ago. But today in Africa the Catholic Church is campaigning against condoms, the result of which leads to more aids sufferers. Not to mention US evangelicals supporting the intoduction of the death penalty for homosexuals in Uganda.

I am not worshipping anything. I support clear and critical thought.

Well we disagree on gender. And Hillary. I really don’t want to discuss politics here. It has saturated every media outlet. I’m going to try to avoid them for my mental health. 🙂

Right, humanity is better off without the universities, hospitals, and charities that Christianity has pretty much invented. If it weren’t for the Catholic Church, no one would have university degrees because they invented the concept of a university in the first place……

Also, you speak as if an atheistic society is any better. If anything, it’s only worse. My mother escaped perhaps the bloodiest regime in history, the USSR, and was hunted down by the KGB for being defiant about her religious expression.

Better advice would be not to trust yourself and your own ego, because that’s what you’re really worshiping.

It does seem to feel that way sometimes, I agree.
As for not being able to celebrate a woman potentially being president… well, we’ve had a female Prime Minister… and it’s not all it’s cracked up to be if she’s not the ‘right’ person for the job. Her gender should be irrelevant… and celebrating her gender seems strange to me with the progressive push for ‘equality’ as they define it – women and men are supposed to be the same. It’s feels a bit hypocritical. When the right woman comes along (which I don’t believe Hillary is) she won’t have to fight as hard as Hillary for validation. Be patient… she’s coming. 🙂

It is polarized on both sides. There is literally no middle ground, no listening to each other, no giving other respect. I really hate it.
You know what makes me sad, is that for the first time in history a woman who is so highly qualified to be president is running, and I feel like I can’t even celebrate that as a woman with all women.

Thank you so much. I like you, too. I remember when you first joined (it was right after 26) and your avatar intrigued me … so I always paid attention to your posts. I think our “viewpoint glasses” have similar corrective lenses.
