BACK ON: Scientology ‘disconnection’ billboard OK’d by competitor after Outfront Media bails

Billboard2

Phil Jones needed just half a day to rebound from the disappointing news that Outfront Media had rescinded the contract he signed for a three-month, $8,200 billboard in Hollywood that would highlight Scientology’s “disconnection” policy.

Phil and his wife Willie are former Church of Scientology members on a mission to raise awareness of the policy, which prevents their grown children, Mike and Emily, from having any contact with them. Both Mike and Emily are Scientology Sea Org employees who work in the Los Angeles area after signing billion-year contracts, promising to work for Scientology lifetime after lifetime.

After raising money with the help from the readers of this website, Phil signed a contract for a billboard with the Los Angeles office of Outfront Media, but on Friday it was rescinded by Outfront’s New York office without explanation. Monday morning, Phil confirmed with Outfront that they were not interested in any changes to artwork or other alterations — there was no possibility of revisiting the contract. We’ve left messages with representatives at both of Outfront’s offices, and have received no reply.

But it took Phil only a few hours on Monday to find another company willing to approve the billboard, even after Phil explained that another company had turned him down.

As for the name of that company, location of the billboard, and the date of its unveiling, Phil has asked us to hold that information back to prevent any outside interference. As soon as we can share more of those details, you’ll be hearing about them here at the Underground Bunker.

Scientology needs help on a new book

One of our readers forwarded this advertisement that Scientology’s Golden Era Productions has put out, looking for a freelance copyeditor to help with updating an 800-page book that will present the “history, background, beliefs, practices, churches and social betterment (community) programs” of a “new and fast-growing religion.”

Based on that description, it sounds like Scientology leader David Miscavige has decided it’s time to update this garish 1993 doorstop…

We must have been mailed at least three copies of this 4-pound propaganda bomb over the course of our career. Is Miscavige planning on killing a few forests to send out another round of them to journalists and “opinion leaders”? Oh joy.

Bonus items from our tipsters

Mark Bunker has today’s gem from the XENU TV archive: “Back on November 12, 2000, Jamie DeWolf came to Clearwater to host a benefit concert for the LMT. Jesse Prince got Jamie on the cans in front of the Bank Building and the Fort Harrison Hotel to seek out his overts.”

Hey, Harlem, here’s who Scientology says is going to create a new “Harlem Renaissance.”
