What a great discussion. I have been wondering about these things for a long time, that is, God in scientology and the 8th dynamic. Maybe David Miscarriage is out 8d? :-)

In terms of the question of Christianity and the sovereignty of God and the reality of free will which Mark wonders about, here is the standard Christian theology (and I have a PhD in divinity, so I'm not just talking out of my ass):

God, in his absolute sovereignty, willed to create a universe wherein some beings (humans) would have free will. The overarching will of God is that humans act freely, even when they are acting wrongly (i.e., doing evil). By analogy, it is like the parent who allows his child to go on a sleepover to a friend's house with the full understanding that his child may make poor decisions there. The overarching will oft he parent is that the child mature, and this involves allowing the child to err.

Take it or leave it as you like. But there is the standard approach in Christian theology to the question you raise.

Aaron thanks I listened in at 43:25 of the video like you suggested and truly had never heard Hubbard's last days described like this before with Mike Rinder telling what Sarge (?) said and how Hubbard went babbling on about zapping the body thetans that were apparently engulfing him and how Ray Mithoff couldn't recall what Hubbard's last instructions were. Good stuff. Thanks. Other than that, thought you make a really fun and engaging host and interviewer and of course I'm always interested in what Mike Rinder has to say. Keep up the good work. Sorry I didn't listen to the whole interview but I do agree with your thoughts on God and Scientology. Myself being a Scientologist only in the 1970's I don't have any connection to second or third generation Scientologists so I thought I'd pass over that part of your series. Now you've got me interested ...

In other words, how DARE you disagree in terms that aren't mandated by people better than I. You CAN'T have compassion for HIM because, you can't understand HIM, and compassion is something HE told me who to have compassion for! Sorry. LOL, they believe THEY are the creator God, so technically, I guess they do believe in a creator god...or many. And yes, they really ARE that disoriented to the real world. Shocking, isn't it?

So how long can or would a person usually go on with that sort of thing before more advanced services are necessary?

theres a cult in McKeesport, PA covered tonight on KDKD tv news, by reporter Andy Sheehan. it has been practicing cult mind control techniques since being established in 1991. this includes the policy of disconnection of ex members. i can't locate a link to the video story at this moment but here is the story from a family cult awareness group. Preacher man Guy Miller has a direct link to God, and if you follow him, obey him completely in all aspects of your life, and contribute generously, you will not be following god. If you are completely obedient you will not die...members who have passed away are described as people without faith. Gay members are told from the pulpit that they should kill themselves.
