Suggest you read more about early history of scientology, as it started out from the git-go as Hubbard´s little money-making-"thetan-control"-feifdom.
The scientology I experienced 40 years ago, as one not in yet, taking a personality test, was just as hard-sell and robotic and fake-love-bomb-ey as the one I experienced at ASHO...
It´s okay, I know we disagree on the subject of scientology as a subject of real value or help. And, yes, I used the word "detest" in my previous comment VERY consciously.
Having said all that, I hope that you are able to speak openly and freely to your friends sooner than later.

Hi Mark - detest is a very strong word but, in the spirit that I was talking about earlier, you also have a right to your feelings/viewpoint about it. I honestly can see why someone would feel that way too...especially our friends who were in the SO and sat in the RPF for years, etc., etc.

On the meter, yeah, it's an old technology, the wheatstone bridge, etc. I'll look it up! I have an engineer friend and he and I have talked about the meter and all the strengths and weaknesses.

Me, I feel like someone who is a real counselor - in or out of any specific practice - should be so well in comm with their friend/subject that they can observe changes and communicate enough to find out what's going on, generally. That is true OT, to use that wording and meaning. But there were OTs way before Ron put that word to it.

Wanna hear something that pissed me off? My friend went to Flag and was talking about how he/she had psychic abilities. Know what these arrogant folks said? "You can't possibly be psychic because you're not OT on the grade chart. That's a degrade to the tech to say you are." WTF???

Not the Scientology I knew 40 years ago where the response would be, "Wow, Really? Great! I wonder how much better you'll be at it with..." whatever.

I keep in mind that there is a difference between the "people" of Scientology and the cult. The people are, for the most part, beautiful, helpful people, when they get in. Too bad for the group agreement to be a jerk to anyone who doesn't share their viewpoint.

Too bad that it's morphed into a Nazi/1984 control concentration camp without bars. The only bars are the ones like Ron described in Lake Tanganyika.

Good on ya.
I detest scientology based on my own experiences, soul-searching, and reading/research, which continues. I do not insist that you have to agree with me. But, yeah, after it´s all said and done, the value I got from the experience was in leaving it and seeing what a fool I had been and learning about the mechanics of that fool-making process...and, fortunately, there
is a LOT of information out there about that.
I have found that my life is infinitely calmer without the scientological jargon and the belief in and use of its so-called "technology". Again, just my take on the subject.
If you feel inclined/interested-and haven´t done so already-read about skin galvanometers/wheatstone bridges and their history (pre-20th century). Interesting reading and, at the very least, additional context for
understanding, from a scientific viewpoint, what they can and cannot do.

Hi Mark
Thanks for the "no-snark zone". :) And I mean that with no snark also.
It's a funny thing out here. We are all pissed off because DM (and some say LRH) give us no choice and are dictatorial about what people read or believe while in the cult.
IMHO, I see that some people swing to the opposite end of the spectrum and then hate EVERYTHING Scn and vilify and ridicule anyone who says they genuinely got benefit out of Hubbard's observations and such.
I wonder, isn't that just as bad? Shouldn't people have a right to have their integrity on what benefit they did or didn't get from something without others feeling they have a right to degrade them and call them stupid or "still brainwashed"? Or worse, condescend and say, "You'll come out of it."?
That's why I appreciate your making it safe to communicate whatever reality I have for myself.
I would say I'm a UTR Indie. Most people who are in don't know that I'm out. This is a distinct advantage because I can still talk with my good friends and, when the time is right, plant some very real seeds that coincide with the outpoints they've seen or injustices done to them. Pretty much 90% of my friends that I've shown these truths to have come out - UTR mostly.
And, as you say, getting people out of THIS cult for sure is life-saving work.
That is some sticky slime in those Matrix battery cells. Most people who find out what kind of sh*t they're in are happy that someone gave them a head's up so they can get out. ;)
Thanks again for the validation. We are all of the same village, those of us who got up and left. I learn from you, you learn from me and, together, we all put down our own key pieces of the jigsaw puzzle so it can all make more sense to all of us.
To me, that's the bottom line in all of it.
Take care and be all Zen and stuff. :D
