In reply to ReallyMGM. You can never judge a book by its cover. Ha ha ;) I remember that movie, although I wasn't really referring to it in my post. It was more about Hubbard's fascination with DC-8's as evidenced in the Xenu nonsense :)

In reply to jazzlover. Putting this out if the way on an old thread. Thomas Harris is a close family friend. I met him many years ago after Black Sunday was released at his mothers home. Very nice man. But writes some very weird books!

In reply to Kay.

Thanks, Kay.

After that, and as late as in the ’90s when I came into scn, at events, Miscavige claimed that Dianetics was on the best seller list again and so many more times after this. It seemed miraculous just how popular this book was. I don’t believe it but I did then. I didn’t know any better and didn’t for the life of me suspect we were being lied to! We know better now, of course. 🙂

In reply to Missionary Kid. Yes, beginning with the bobbysoxers, he had a large fan base that kept up throughout his lifetime. I have a fake book for ASCAP musicians from 1970, it contains everything from the Beatles to the Stones to Hava Nagila to Sinatra standards. It was very expensive, 80$, which is nearly 500$ when adjusted for inflation.
