I can name about a dozen that survived a founders death, within the last 50 years., including one that I was in. Here are a few: The Family, Heaven's Gate, The Moonies. It is easy to find them, there are lots of them. They don't document all the shit they do so you are not going to find as much about them as you can on COS. L. Ron Hubbard's monstrosity does reflect his unique mental illness, but otherwise it is cookie cutter cult stuff. I don't consider cults necessarily religous, it is about control and abuse.

I grew up as a fundamentalist Christian. There are bright people there, but they either don't question what they're taught, or believe some sort of convoluted explanation they've been fed. Some never wake up.

Palin appears to me to be one of the not-so-bright born-again crowd. Her Christianity and her conservatism are a mile wide and a millimeter deep. She's like a cockroach with a microphone.

I believe that her kids have bought her brand of Christianity that is very judgmental of everyone who doesn't believe as they do. It is also very quick to forgive the "sins" of those in their group who stray, yet unforgiving of others. The hypocrisy is apparent to everyone who looks at her outside of her bubble.

Her son basically went into the Army, IMO, because he was getting into trouble, and it was thought that it would straighten him up. Sarah is, indeed, a momma bear, but I believe that fierceness only applies outwardly and doesn't include any real structure for her kids to grow up in.

I look at her as basically trailer trash (I apologize right here to people who live in mobile home parks) who knows how to manipulate people. I've heard that as soon as she hit the national stage that she basically abandoned the locals. Her speech is peppered with "conservative" slogans and sound bites, but there's no substance to it. For a woman of her age, she is attractive outwardly, but so what? She's ugly in her demeanor.

We agree that Scientology is a deliberate hoax that requires the participation of both knowing and (mostly) unknowing collaborators to exist.

As part of the human condition, the existence of Scientology is made more understandable when one looks at the some of folks who have been lionized in global political and religious circles in just the last 100 years alone. Hitler, Mao, Stalin, bin Laden, Khomeini, Hirohito, Amin, Pol Pot...etc.

In some instances it almost appears that one of the "stats" necessary to obtain adulation is to murder millions of your own countrymen / devotees (or their supposed enemies) to prove one's mettle as a bringer of future utopia.

And yet, there are folks alive today who honor and revere those named above despite the overwhelming evidence of their malevolent nature and atrocities. In many cases tens / hundreds of millions honored them while they were alive.

That's much worse than Scientology and it is all around us on earth...even in this moment...as well as many folks that still want to bring "the good parts" of these failed leaders ideas to fruition again.

Lookee dat, THDNE!!! A flyin' squirrel! of course, of course! Sqeeeee!!!
Funny story: my orange cat is quite the hunter. 2 winters ago, one late late night, he brought a flying squirrel into the cabin... they are a little bit bigger than a red squirrel. [big game]
I thought it was dead; it was not. And so for about an hour there was me trying to chase this sweet flying rodent back out the door... brooms, nets and pillow runways were involved.
Twice, when it ran up a wall, and then it would jump off, and looked exactly like this,
comin' at me! Involuntary screams, I'll tell ya, coming' outta me! The cats runnin' all 'round too.
Great comedy. Big sigh of relief when it finally made it out! Then lotsa laughter.
Thanks Hole! I love it.
