I like a man who can admit when he’s made a mistake – good for him!

To clarify, i didn’t read the book and retract my statement about it. I did see the movie, and will say there was nothing in the film that I had not seen in the blogs. It was not original in any way, contained no information about the practices or ideals of scientology, and the makers rejected any information except that which supported the primary thesis. It’s hate media and will soon result in more attacks and probably deaths.

But “Going Clear” is not a documentary, it’s a remake of a book which was just a remake of old blog posts, “special exposes”, and newspaper articles.

And binders and binders of information that Scientology Inc. gave to Lawrence Wright, in a vain attempt to convince him that Scientology was the most wonderful thing on Teegeeack. Don’t forget those binders, Van.

That’s one of her least offensive beliefs !

Aah, this is such a shame. And truly, it hurts to see her toss gorgeous day after gorgeous day down the drain. Now I know it rains a bit where you are, but since I walked my Woofy Clara in a downpour this morning, it’s not so bad, and totally better than even one day in the Sea Org (or one day in a lousy marriage).

I’m not one to make unfounded claims, but I found this strange as well. I live in Hollywood, and *everyone* I know has seen it, including several people who are in the film industry. The number of times that someone would say “Hey, have you seen that documentary Going Clear?” without having any clue that I was part of the critic community was astounding. They were just bringing it up because they’d seen it and thought it was interesting. If that was happening to me regularly, I’m sure it made a huge splash around here.

I kinda wonder if Scientology’s presence in Hollywood/Los Angeles had an impact on how people voted. I’m not sure how it would make a difference, and I certainly don’t think Scientology has the ability to impact the voting process directly through threats/manipulation/promises etc (there are just too many people who get a vote), but it certainly is weird.
