Who are those WISE guys? A tipster helps us get some names of Scientology operatives

WiseGuys

On Thursday, we told you about a woman who is suing a business in Pasadena that forced her to take Scientology courses, and when she refused, she was fired.

We explained that the business, Lusida Rubber Products, had been taken over by executives active in Scientology’s “WISE” front group, the World Institute of Scientology Enterprises.

You see, Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard revealed in a 1965 lecture that he had gleaned from a galactic civilization which lasted 80 trillion years (yes, he said trillionshear it for yourself here, second item) a way of setting up organizations that he called an “org board.” Hubbard ended up denuding whole forests with his writings about how organizations and businesses should be run, and his followers assume that he’s as much a genius about that as he is about the human mind and the nature of the universe itself.

So one of Scientology’s sneaky ways of spreading its influence and recruiting people is through pushing Hubbard’s “admin technology” on unsuspecting businesses through its WISE front group. WISE tends to target dentists, chiropractors, and veterinarians, but it will infiltrate any business that gives it a chance. The process is to target the company’s principal, telling him or her that they can make much more money if they just allow a WISE consultant (often coming via a name like Sterling Management, which doesn’t appear to have a connection to Scientology) to come in and handle all of the boring administrative and personnel issues that a professional like a dentist or chiropractor hates dealing with. The target is then encouraged to take expensive courses and subject employees to them as well. Eventually, the scheme gets more brazen as employees will be told to begin taking courses down at the local Scientology church itself.

This has backfired on some employers. We’ve written about an Oregon dentist who paid a large fine for forcing Scientology on one of his employees, and a Miami chiropractor was sued by the federal government for the same thing (he settled).

But these schemes are ongoing, and we’ve talked to victims who told us they didn’t even realize they were getting into bed with Scientology when they were first approached by WISE operatives. Researcher R.M. Seibert continually reminds us that WISE has gone silent about its members. Before Anonymous arrived and made things more difficult for the church, WISE occasionally would put out a guide to all of its participants. But we haven’t seen one in years.

Then, this week, one of our tipsters — RMycroft — told us he’d stumbled on a small goldmine. Deep within a WISE website, he’d found the organization boasting about its top performers. It’s not a comprehensive guide like the group used to put out, but at least it gives us some names to watch out for as they try to rope in more unsuspecting businesses. Here’s what our tipster found:

WISE 2015-2016

BOOKSALES GAME!

Dear All WISE Members,

Welcome to the ninth week of standings for the new 2015-2016 WISE Game! Remember, there is only 5 weeks left in the first Quarter. This is a Sprint Game period, hence time to get a move on!

These standings are changing every week! Performia International just took over first place in the Consulting Companies League! With affluence booksales the last few weeks they came out of nowhere to dominate this game. Sterling Management is just behind by only two points; can they take over first place and be the Champions of this Sprint Game? If so, then they will be awarded on their home turf as the Convention is going to be in LA. Meaning that not only their leader (CEO Kevin Wilson) but also their whole team would be there to go on stage and receive their trophy. Quite the victor, can they pull it off? Meanwhile Veterinary Practice Solutions is right behind and gaining fast. They beat Comm Line last week and their fearless leader Joel Parker is leading their team to victory. Go team Canada!

In the Top Registrar League we had quite a week! Martin Runow held his position in first place but the famous Dennis Dezelic from MGE just surged ahead of the pack and is now threatening his cushy lead. Not far behind is Greg Winteregg, also from MGE and a Goliath in his own right with Feinberg & Dan Margolin from Effective Management close behind in third and fourth place.

UPCOMING RELEASE: Make sure to secure your copies of the new Admin Reference Volumes. Hubbard College Press is taking pre-orders of these awesome new secular reference books which cover all of the basic areas you need in the technology of administration. Next milestone in the Laura DeCrescenzo saga tomorrow

Tomorrow morning at 8:30 am (11:30 Eastern) a hearing is scheduled to begin at the Los Angeles Superior Court building downtown. Judge Rolf M. Treu will consider the Church of Scientology’s motion for summary judgment which cites its First Amendment religious rights in the forced-abortion lawsuit filed in 2009 by Laura DeCrescenzo.

After Laura’s lawsuit survived a previous motion for summary judgment in 2013, she was given a December 7, 2015 trial date. But that’s now on hold as the church gets another bite at the apple. If Scientology can convince Judge Treu that its First Amendment protections allow it to do whatever it wants to its employees, even force abortion on a child, then Laura’s case will be tossed out. If he denies the motion, then a new trial date will be scheduled in 2016.

We hope to have a correspondent on the scene, but if you can get down to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse with a laptop (we’ve live-blogged from the location in the past), we’d appreciate updates as things are happening. Drop us a line.
