I think he is tough enough to deal with the worst that scn/narconon can throw at him. And so can Little and his firm.

I never thought that narconon would be shut down with one big punch but rather by a thousand cuts. Now that have annoyed both the courts and their own insurance companies…. and it is only a matter of time until the insurance companies bail on them. I am not sure if they can “self-insure” and equally unsure if “self-insuring” themselves will buy them anything in the long run.

Presumably the Chinese laborers are not the ones who “brook no criticism”, are not the “culties” in this analogy, though. I’m fine with criticising Apple, just don’t think the “cult” parallel does anything but give a bit of a pass to Scientology.

Apple’s labor and environmental issues in China are, I think, to a large extent an issue of the business culture in China. You can set up all the checks and monitoring you want, but if your suppliers are actively trying to subvert those controls, in order to cut their costs and increase profits, they’re going to find a way.

If a supplier says they can produce a component for $x, and that’s fixed in a contract, and the cost of the parts and materials is out of their control, then the easiest way to increase profits is to cut corners on labor and the environment.

It would be easier for companies like Apple to control this kind of thing if the government at various levels were more interested in enforcing the law.

That said, just think of the labor conditions and environmental practices involved in making the many products that have much thinner profit margins than Apple’s. Apple can afford to tell suppliers to raise the wages of their factory workers. Most companies manufacturing in China cannot.
