This stuff can’t be hidden. Humanity must easily find this super-valuable motherlode, so it’s got to be easily accessible. For now, it’s presumably guarded or at least monitored, of course, but maybe I’ll leave a note to my kids and nieces and nephews, asking them, in turn, to leave notes of their own, so that when COS dies (could be in OUR lifetimes, but surely within a couple of generations), someone knows to seek out these caves and scratch up the records and crap on the books so this toxic, preventing any resurrection of this demonic nonsense.

Gold and silver had value because Kings took it in taxes. In antiquity, the King almost always controlled the gold and silver mines. By paying his troops, letting them pay farmers and merchants for goods, and then collecting much of the gold back up again he saved a great deal of real wealth and many lives that would have been destroyed if his soldiers simply preyed on the populace to get the same things.

What’s gold to a hungry man if there are no Kings? Compare it to ammunition, or food, or a good knife. Remember how insane Native Americans thought European lust for it was? Even peoples like the Inca who valued it pretty highly for adornment?

A few years after a collapse, everyone would feel that way. If there’s no King who wants it in taxes…it’s not worth all that much.

Or they’re one of the one million children who die from it in just the next 12 months because their moms and dads don’t have 10 dollars for a vaccine.
