Actually syphilis was out-evolved in 1909 by Salvarsan. It was discovered by Paul Ehrlich’s student Sahachiro Hata, whom I think was gypped out of the Nobel Prize because he was Japanese. Hata went on to found Kitasato University in Japan. His name indicates he was the 8th son in his family, but I’ve never been able to confirm this, as his birth name was Yamane, and he was adopted by the Hata clan when his parents died at age 14.

Salvarsan was highly unstable in air, so penicillin was a vast improvement, but it’s kinda hard to imagine, from a distance of over 100 years, what an advance Salvarsan was over the calomel (an Hg salt) that was used for centuries before to poison both patient and invader. The saying used to be “a night with Venus and a lifetime with Mercury”. It was always an open questions of which would kill the patient first, the mercury side effects, or the disease.

Yeah, I check in from time to time, but I don’t think there is much happening here- For the very simple reason that the Scilons are pretty cowed and beaten down… I’ve been in the Celeb Centre twice recently and seen no one— And I don’t just mean walk-ins, I mean no STAFF.
