It was written by a guy in Seattle. I knew his son but we never got along very well. But it is insightful because he addressed these issues and later they were found to be of such importance that the rules have been changed. Did you know that now the co-pilot is the one who usually does the takeoffs and landings now? I watched that one again today (Alaska Flight 261). Yes! It is definitely one of the more terrifying ones. I always have shows like this playing in the back ground when I’m doing stuff. And to think it was just something that was not greased. They were flying that sucker upside down for a bit there. And then! There was a pilot who witnessed the whole thing. Damn, I bet he has nightmares about it for the rest of his life.

I had a couple questions to ask you about the kid in the cockpit one but I was just now browsing through a forum and read something that pretty much covered it. I wanted to know if the pilots had been told about the differences between the two planes (one has alarm – other just small light comes on) and I also wondered if the pilots had even been told in the first place that the 30 second resist on the yoke would disengage a part of the auto-pilot. Also what about the recovery fuck up – like you mentioned, all they had to do was nothing and the plane would have corrected itself. On this forum I was reading it said that none of those things were told to the pilots, not that that’s an excuse because god knows it was insane doing what the pilot did, but anyway, another perfect storm as usual.

There are so many of these shows, I certainly can’t keep them all in my head at once. I know that Alaskan one was one that always stood out just because it was something so minor (lack of grease) that caused all that horror and everybody dying.

Another one that stands out is the Swiss 111 I think it was? The one with the fire. Shit! That was unbelievable.

The KLM and PA collision – I told you I wanted to send you this website that has this cool animation of everything that happened. The transmissions are supposedly timed with the planes movement but they are not, as far as I could tell, so it’s not as if it is this amazingly accurate animation. I have not had time to look for it but I will.

I am going to try to find that book also (Sky Gods). You wouldn’t have remembered the authors name, would you?

I live in Mountain View CA and I have seen that add several times. What startles me, is that I have family members who demonstrated and intelligence, drive, and persistence and when the commercial comes on, I think, what a disappointment that they lie about a mean coward when there are many, many men and women who did accomplish very important things so the lie is terrible. Sadly, this is one of the things Captain Howdy and I bonded over.

I’m not sure what more they could do ‘smear’ wise, as long as theyhave no physical spokesperson to go lie to the cameras. It has to jut be attack pieces, paid ads and ‘Who is… ?’ sites,the sort of thing they’ve had on TOny for along time.

The fact that he puts up with these shenanigans and doesn’t complain about it really impresses me. HE seems to accept it as part of doing what he believes to be right and therefore he rises above; I see no animus in his post directly related to the jaw-dropping gall of accosting his parents at their place, for example, He does his job and lets the work speak for itself.
