True. I’m not a religious person. I used to be Episcopalian. Now I spend Sunday morning in the garden. Or fixing the house.

I think because they are not going to be able to see it in the UK on March 29th and providers there haven’t said when they may have it to broadcast it.

The problem for me with religion is that there is always a disconnect between abstract core teaching (which cannot be objectively accessed) and the social reality.

Often both are benign. I have friends who are religious people and belong to a compassionate and caring community. I don’t share their faith, but I admire them as good people.

However, core teachings can (and often are) ‘interpreted’ to mean the very opposite of what was intended – this is what has recently happened with the hijacking of Islam by murderous fanatics.

Scientology is unusual in that its doctrine does need to be distorted to enable believers to justify reprehensible actions. It’s all there in the basic doctrine (e.g. disconnection and fair game).

Also, I have to say… banal. He owes his position in the CofS to ruthlessness and being in the right place at the right time. There is nothing about the man himself which is in the least exceptional.
