I’m an ex-scn myself and completely understand the tone and content of these videos. I see that you are aiming to hep those still in to question authority but showing them respect and respect for Hubbard. These videos that you produce are the best exit counseling for any scn in doubt. If I had seen these 25 years ago as a scn it would have helped me to feel better about having doubt about being involved in the cult.

Yes. As I said, I was responding to what you felt was worth passing along. I don’t find Lewis to be a very thoughtful author, so I doubt that pursuing his opinions would be fruitful. I would be very surprised to find that his third path is any more honest than the quote you already provided.

That’s the danger of assuming from a quote. Lewis actually DOES say that there is a third path, indirectly in the first chapter of SCREWTAPE and directly in the sequel “Screwtape Proposes A Toast.”

I’m just going by the quote you reference (It’s been too long since I’ve read it). Lewis, through his fictional demon, says we have a ‘cruel dilemma’. We can either engage in the idolatry of worshiping naturalism (i.e. the Materialist Magician, or vague ‘Forces’), or we can engage in the (still idolatry, in my opinion) worshiping of Lewis’ god and
supernaturalism. This is a false dilemma. A third, unstated option is to worship neither. This propaganda is similar to LRH’s many statements that you can choose to either be a solution to society’s ills (i.e. join Scientology) or you can be part of the problem. He is attempting to create a false dichotomy.

Again, people recovering from religion often speak of the tenacity of lingering religious emotional fears long after their cognitive beliefs have left. I am sure there are many former Scientologists and ex-cult members who can attest to this, especially. I’ve never heard a “new atheist” claim otherwise. Perhaps, if a person were never reared to take seriously the idea of hell, for example, then that person would be somewhat inoculated from this fear. Childhood indoctrination, however, runs deep. Scientology provides a good counterexample demonstrating that even educated adults can be indoctrinated to fear, say, engrams and body thetans with enough pressure.
