No Mormonism is the opposite of what I went through. Mormons believe in free will, “agency”, one has free to believe what they want. Mormons compared to the cult I was a part of are very nice saintly people. But in the cult I was a part of was much more non-free will thinking. You had to believe everything they taught or else you weren’t “spiritual” , “doing bad spiritually” and more labels like that. They even went as far as tellin you , you were rebellious, cowardly, unfaithful, etc etc. If you didn’t come to every meeting, you were harassed by phone calks, unexpected visits at your home or workplace etc, you were subject to public humiliation , character assaination, even banned from dating the people in .leadership. The cults roots stemmed from a man whose father was in the military (Navy Admirals) and who’s lineage came from politicians and religious leaders back in the turn of the century and more. He playgerized certain doctrines from Alexander Campbell and changed some things from other books he had read and created his own “movement”.

Thank you for your insight, though I am sorry for all you have gone through. I’m a never in, but I like Marty.
