Odd, isn’t it? I’ve run across just two or three people though, who at social gatherings pretended they knew all about it because “they were in.” They weren’t.

Scientology and the effect it has on people is very complex. Hubbard was complex, too. To simply dismiss Hubbard as a charlatan is simply wrong. Were he just a charlatan, why did he work so goddamned hard at it?

Those pretenders pretended to have been scientologists to give their simplistic opinions and explanations some weight. I have been out for many years, and I still find things about myself that I need to shed, because they are scientology things, not normal people things. There is a lot of crap that goes deep having been truly in the damned cult, and somebody who has just read about it can’t just pretend and spout simplistic bullshit – at least not while I’m around 🙂

Now, that’s very different from somebody such as yourself who does not pretend to have been a clam – You are always welcome to ask questions and give opinions – it’s just when somebody pretends to be a current or ex-clam that bothers me, and I can always tell.

Well, she handled herself and ended up leaving. This was a totally tone 40 volunteer who donated thousands of hours in many substantial ways. UPSTAT? Who cares.
