Some are, some aren’t. I’ve been aware, in general, for many years how whacky and woo woo scientology is. Whenever I’ve made reference to CoS in a lecture (usually referencing them as a cult not a religion) I’ll get some students who nod knowingly and laugh and others who look puzzled. I should point out these are college students taking sociology and criminology courses. I can’t speak to the knowledge of students in English or history programs.
