Loved your video on God (or lack of) in Scientology. When you said that you’re supposed to realize that “you are God” and each and “every one of us is God”, that really resonated. I came to the same conclusion when I was in the church and kept looking for the answer to the eight Dynamic because it was never spelled out by LRH, when pretty much everything else is (based the writings and lectures of LRH). Somehow it didn’t do much for me, I never considered myself God, or A God, and actually was a big turn off.

Oh, it’s much worse than that, Eugene. The belief that we should “trust in Jesus” because a bronze-age book said he was sacrificed by his supernatural father to save us from the eternal burning of our flesh (i.e., the doctrine of vicarious redemption by human sacrifice) is an utterly immoral belief system that abolishes the concept of personal responsibility all together. Yup, disbelief is a good thing. Christopher Hitchens sums it up nicely…er…trenchantly.

I took to a closer scrutiny of Scientology philosophy and methodology itself. It turned out to be a very fruitful area… And I was just listening to that Congress – State of Man – right after I watched Karen’s video. The Congress contains a good summary of just about everything that’s wrong with Scientology in my view on Hubbard’s redefinition of the concept of “responsibility” and other things. But this quote about God isn’t that far off. I recall being at a youth Christian gathering at university and the pastor was preaching to students that they should even leave their exams up to “Jesus” and told stories of how answers just “came” to some guy because he trusted in Jesus. I was listening to it in disbelief…
