Don't I know it! I don't suppose anyone bought too many?

Now you understand why we in Global Capitalism HQ view private jets as neither luxurious nor decadent opulence. Imagine what would happen if we walked into a pitch meeting to sell a $15 billion corporate buyout covered with boogers from the snot-nosed kid in the seat next to ours or reeking of drinks spilled by an overworked flight attendant. :-)

I look at it as a matter of time and money. It is cheaper than driving, especially for distances of over 1000 miles, and the time, even with delays, is certainly shorter. I figure I can put up with people for 4/5 hours easily.

I have little fear of sneezers, etc. I'm not one to go out and deliberately expose myself to people, but I've come to the conclusion that the biggest source of bacterial and virus contamination is touching things. If one is around any kids, especially the ones between 3-10, they're gonna get you.

The biggest barrier to infection is your skin. Keeping your hands away from your face and good hand washing is the best protection. I'm not big on the whole antibacterial/Purell stuff. It's turning out that we've been doing too much antibacterial work, especially for children, so they don't develop the immunity they need as adults. The time to wash one's hands is before eating.

The biggest health problem from flying, IMO, is the dryness of the air that comes into the passenger compartment. Sinuses and mucus membranes get dried out and somewhat irritated.

Since I'm familiar with a lot of different areas, and I watch weather, and I enjoy geography, and I'm familiar with many of the routes that aircraft fly, I'm always interested in what is going on.

The most enjoyable flights I've had on a commercial airliner was on Midwest Express. It won all sorts of awards. Now that it's merged with Frontier, it hasn't won any. They only had one class, and it was similar to first class for everyone.

Basically, I decide I'm going to take what comes on an airline flight. I have my computer with me on my carry-on baggage, and if I have a layover, most airports have wifi. I'm pretty gregarious, so I end up talking to a lot of people & learn a lot about places and things.

On the other hand, you'll have to pay for me to go on a cruise.

I hate walking miles of concourse, just to be packed into a box with hundreds of sneezing strangers. The last two times I went to Tucson to see my 95 yr old mother, I bought a first class ticket - and it was worth every penny. Traveling sucks the big one, and I will no longer do it - no matter how much my sisters try to shame me into it!
