I have studied comparative religion all my life, as well, some scientology. I have been looking for the source of this ‘law’, since much of LRH’s work seems to have been culled from various religions and philosophy . This may be one of the so-called “workable” edicts of his that can be understood and applied without too much complication, as long as you don’t over-think it. A third “unseen” party could easily be a belief system or perspective that would tip the balance into conflict for a variety of reasons. Christians might interpret this ‘unseen’ third party as “the devil” or God, maybe even a mischievous ghost, a thetan, a past affiliation or relationship, an education, a conviction, learned behavior, unseen and therefore not necessarily ‘present’ at the moment of the ongoing conflict. You could just as easily call this ‘the second party law’, because someone, previously unseen, might show up and cause some kind of conflict while you’re happily minding your own business. Seeing how there are plenty of people out there that still enjoy being the third party for mere cause and effect, and entertainment, or because they have some sort of gain from seeing this conflict endure, you can see that Ron’s third party law is a simple model, that can help to solve an ethics equation, and yet also illicit endless discussions and semantics as well, depending on how it is applied. Spectator Sports, for instance, would follow the third party law, and virtually anything set up as an ongoing ‘game’. Which is another area that Ron touched on, (that this universe was originally set up for beings to play ‘games’), when at some point this was supposedly lost to the knowledge of the original inhabitants, and life and survival became a grim and serious occupation. Science and Quantum physics have come quite a ways since LRH postulated all of this. The number ‘3’ plays in many religions, and quarks have since been defined as having the triple components of Red, Green and Blue, so it seems that even the parts that make up the physical universe act on a third party law of some sort or another. I don’t know if in this day and age any discovery of science or religion is relevant to our experience, or the idea that mere knowledge would bring about an enlightenment of the likes that LRH describes as possible on Earth, anymore than a Christian holds a conviction that Jesus will fix it all someday upon return. Perhaps it would take a third party of the same magnitude to negate conflict, But I digress, because I now tend to enjoy a more mundane take on “life, the universe, and everything”, which is why I recommend putting down the belief systems for a bit, and picking up a copy of Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy”. ‘Slartibartfast’ put it best: “Perhaps I’m old and tired, but I always think the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say, “Hang the sense of it” and just keep yourself occupied.”
