I am a lawyer in L.A., and have litigated with and against Laura’s attorneys (one of whom is a blithering idiot, but I won’t say which one), and have appeared before Judge Sohigian, who is normally a bit better for the defense than the plaintiff. It says a lot that this particular judge denied the motion, and made some great comments about the oppressive Sea Org life, because a lot of these suits are tossed for being untimely. I’m glad and relieved the judge didn’t throw out the case on statute of limitation grounds, and am very interested to see how this plays out.

Interestingly, I had to go to court a few years ago on a day when a bunch of Scientologists were having a demonstration [it may have been the Wollersheim trial], and got into a little verbal scuffle with them.

Boy is that a mistake on their part. As a mental health worker, I can safely say that the majority of my colleagues have at least a basic understanding of cults. Furthermore, considering how much they’ve publicly alienated the psychiatric community (most of whom don’t even get what the deal is with Scientology’s enmity towards us, we just know they’re nutjobs), and I have a very difficult time of any psych eval working out in their favor no matter what psychiatrist their attorneys get on the payroll.

I think a great way to hit back at Scientology would be to start multiple lawsuits all at the same time, not a class action but hundreds of lawsuits over human rights issues, fraud, labor standards etc. hundreds of lawsuits throughout the US and other countries and lets see them keep up with that. The few lawsuits that are going on show DM in a bad light but hundreds would crush him and he would not have the resources to keep up with it! Any ex members thathave thought about it should get together and file at the same time.
