Indeed, this is a defining feature of psychopathy. It’s also worth noting that psychopaths fare extremely well in the corporate workplace, and rise to the top faster than almost anyone else if they are, well, “good” at being a psychopath, to put it simply. This helps explain DM’s existence, more or less.

I would also recommend, in the case you are ex-Co$, and are a “problem user/drinker” at least, to seek private therapy OR treatment at a clinic that offers evidence-based treatments. This last point is extremely important.

PS: I’m not saying 12 Step is no good, but in terms of available clinical evidence, there is a lot out there that fares better. In my professional experience, I’d say that if 12 Step DOES work for you, then it works. But for many people it doesn’t work as a model, and just like Scientology, when the model doesn’t work, it blames the end user for not “working it” right. This is another reason I think it is potentially a very big mistake for someone who has had experiences within Co$ to go through 12 Step.

The blasted thing is just a Wheatstone Bridge in a fancy case with made up labeling, period. You can build one yourself for under $50 in parts. Or if you don’t have basic soldering skills you can buy one preassembled in a rugidized case for around $100.

The other $5,300 Cof$ is charging is pure rip off profit.

And remember that “shame” has only the power you give it. I’m not trying to sound like an after school special, but it’s the “shame” that holds you back from getting well, not the drugs. You’d never be embarrassed about talking about a broken ankle for example, and asking for help.

I appreciate that this sounds like Pollyanna advice. It’s honestly not. It’s sensible. You need a friend, and you need the support of your partner. I have NO doubt that s/he would be there for you, as you would for him/her.

And I promise – PROMISE – you that quitting is never as hard as you think it’s going to be. It’s work, yes. It takes commitment, yes. But it’s never as bad as we think.

It’s the shame and fear holding you back from where you want to be. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

Hi G, Entirely possible; I wasn’t there… just illustrating the worst-case example 🙂 I guess the key bit of data I was trying to offer is the burn rate = 8k – 10k per person per week for US-based senior staff. That’s the high calculation. If you average between senior and junior, you use 7k. If your only using junior staff / interns right out of school, you go to 6k, but I find this to be a purely theoretical option. Junior staff never run a project entirely on their own without senior guidance unless you have management with rocks in their heads. And for a firm that size, using any US based employees at less than 6k would be bad business… too much overhead to cover. Using those numbers anyone can calculate the envelope as they see fit… low, mid, high, short, long scenarios.
