Hi MK, PLEASE, PLEASE forgive me. I cannot make a long story short.

I am going back one day to “bury” this info about Mr Eclipse. He is a bit of an introvert. He is wary of “new people.” He is super smart about what he wants to be super smart about. He can be so dumb about other things. But at age 58 (59 on Nov 29) he has improved a lot.

He is not involved in my journey through the rabbit hole of scientology and deserves his protection. Not that $cientology has any teeth, these days. or so I hope.

Mr E grew a up a normal, very curious boy in a middle class suburb of Wis. His parents indulged his curiosity. He grew up a skinny, tow haired (white blonde) kid. He did scouts. (And if Ash or the twins do not have other activities, at least put them in scouts — sorry , my parenting advice )

Mother was a cellist, not great, but OK to get into the local concert orch. She also taught / directed bell choir for her church.

The boy grew up with music without realizing it.

His sister, and later Mr E took up violin at age 10 or so, 4th grade , when instruments were taught in public school.

His Aunt M (sister of mom) wanted to be a violinist. As a child , Aunt M was the youngest and not favored. Mr E’s mom was the favored middle child. Aunt M fought and got a few lessons for violin but it was difficult in the 1930’s /40 s

Aunt M met Mr F. Mr F was a keyboardist – organist. He studied at Lawrence university outside of Appleton in WI. Uncle F and Aunt M married and stay married for almost 60 yrs until Mr F died. He played organ at various churches, and taught keyboard eventually as a prof at Akron. Uncle F and Aunt M had a sharp sense of humor and were / are beloved by Mr E.

Aunt E eventually got her college degree and ended up teaching music (and instruments) in public school. She was early in the Suzuki method. (1960s early) She was a great string teacher.

Aunt M and Mr F had two 2 boys, both older than Mr E. The oldest son also became a keyboardist and a pilot. The younger son played violin growing up.

The younger son (K), according to Mr E, was a wonderful violinist. As a college student K, switched to viola. He eventually went to South Africa for his first paying post grad job, and then to Germany. K plays viola for the Munich Opera.

Mr E was science / math and music smart. He saw what happened to his his cousin (K). He did not want to become an Ex pat, or necessarily practice 5 hrs a day.

Mr E is an accomplished AMATEUR violinist. He knows a lot. He doesn’t practice anymore. We did indulge him in a beautiful Francis Kuttner violin a few yrs ago when he was playing with daughter.

Mr E decided at about age 16 – 18, that he did not want to be a musician. He thought about being an architect. In ways , Mr E is a polymath. He decided he would go into math / science because it was easy for him, and he thought he could make more money at it. (DESIGN is really, really important to him)

Mr E studied a lot of things. He ended up as a computer science major. I met him at that point

We have done very well. Mr E went to interview for a job in Boston in ?1982, and when he returned the professor he worked offer Mr E the deal of creating a company together.

Enough. I can’t shut up Mr E when practiced can be extremely good as a classical violinist.

Being the FUCKING dragon mom I WAS, I encourage early music training and early indulgence in curiosity
