In reply to Jeb Burton. No, libraries buy almost all the books. A mere fraction are donated ... Usually when someone dies or maybe a country like China will send some books about how great their country is. Each library has its own policy about what to do with donated books. Most of our donated books are sold as a large group of books to the highest bidder.

Okay, I’m not going to read 900+ comments, so perhaps a librarian has mentioned this already. Every year I go to the American Library Association conference. I’ve gone for about the past 8 years. There are about 20k librarians every year. At the “trade show” LRH always has a booth dedicated to getting his science fiction books into libraries. It’s always been a rather bland booth with a couple reps quietly sitting there — until this year! This year the had several reps, standing up and calling people over – one was dressed like a pirate! There were librarians gathered around the booth getting info. I was freaked out by this change and kept my distance. However, later a colleague told me they had an emoter at the booth! What’s up with the change? And why we’re librarians ordering their books??

In reply to dbloch7986. First we should start our own donation campaign to get Anti-Scientology books into every library (or however many we can). Be aware that public libraries generally have established rules/guidelines for acquisitions, and in some cities and counties, the library system may have a straight-up "no unsolicited book donations" policy. In those libraries, whether you send them a self-published crackpot screed or the hot new bestseller that everyone is talking about, the donated books are going straight to the Friends of the Library book sale fundraiser. I think a really effective campaign would involve at least as much legwork researching policies and communicating with librarians as raising cash to pay for books and shipping. OTOH, as an easy starting point, maybe J.W. can give us a list of those 180-odd libraries that appear to have cataloged and shelved the entire L.Ron series. Clearly, those libraries have a crying need for books critical of Scientology, and they're obviously not too picky about accepting donations. :)

To put this in perspective, the US has about 9,000 public libraries, so it appears that no Scientology title is in most of them.
