I wouldn’t see myself as a Scientologist either if I ever dable with auditing and such. Even the Origin of the word Scientology is a big fat joke L Ron Hubbard played on you lot, The word is much older look it up.

Cat Daddy, I also enjoy passing by here and have some chat with those awesome people who rarely wanna look at anything else but their own fixed ideas. I hope you enjoy your trip here and keep your head low as an advice.

No wonder he relies on Hubbard’s tech (sorry, I will omit the quotation marks, if you permit, since I have had a personal experience of this). However he doesn’t want to be called a Scientologist! Interesting! Or should I say what an outpoint as we say in scientologese (for those who don’t know the word, please open up some Admin dictionary and not just be fed data by others).

So my take is that Marty, squeezed by the pressures imposed on him because of the high post he had inside the church and the pressures and travails he had other Scientologists experience because of his actions (we call them overts, see Tech dict, for this one), has now made a russian salad out of it all and trying to get some balance in his life.

Henry was not insane like Caligula, but he did have a big ego. However, the reasons or the church split had to do with much more than Henry’s whims.

This is the big historical error that enters the realm of urban legend, like Washington and the cherry tree; “Henry made his own church so he could divorce his wife and marry Ann B.’ Not true.

Henry, who was very orthodox in his piety and had even written a book refuting Lutheranism, announced that he was the head of THE Church IN ENGLAND. (Sorry to shout, but I can’t make the italics work.) There was only one true church, and he would be the head in his own country. He could not form a different one because he had his authority as king, divine right and so on, from the Roman Church.

Perhaps you’ve never heard of Anglo-Catholics. They are members of the Anglican Communion (Church of England; Episcopalians in the US) who are completely Catholic in practice and theology; all the smells and bells, saints, etc. but have nothing to do with Rome. The Pope is just another bishop. (Technically, he is just the bishop of Rome and is so referred to in some circles.) They are part of Henry’s heritage. Not all Episcopalians are that ‘High Church’, but are free to say they are ‘Catholic’ in the sense that they were never completely split off into a new group, as the Lutherans were.

Now, Henry didn’t divorce Catherine; he got the marriage annulled the grounds for that are another story I won’t go into here). She wasn’t able to give him a male heir to ensure the dynasty would continue. You will say, who cares; but before the idea of democratic government, in the chaotic days of medieval Europe, a strong king meant stability and security. A good king kept the rapacious nobles in check. The Tudor dynasty was a shaky, parvenu one with little claim to the throne, but they were the only game in town; and you must understand, before the Tudors was one hell of a civil war, the Wars of the Roses. Talk about rapacious nobles. Nobody wanted to see that again.

And something else was going on; as the medieval era faded, we see the rise of the modern nation-state. This is something new. Henry announcing that he’s the head of the church is part of this gradual development. ( And he didn’t do it on a whim, like Caligula making his horse a senator. There were elaborate legal arguments developed for it in council and Parliament; many Englishmen wanted it to happen.) He was trying to establish England as a power that could stand on its own, not dominated by either France or Spain, the Superpowers of their time. NOT a good man – tho as a youth he was very lovable- but he laid the foundations of English autonomy.

Anne certainly enchanted him, for an incredibly long time before they could marry – 6 years I think – but Anne was Protestant by inclination and had he own agenda,and backed by nobles of the same bent. I have always felt she was used by her powerful uncle the Duke of Norfolk. And others. All the wealth of the church that Henry took went to reward the ‘New Men’ – the Tudor supporters who were replacing the old aristocracy which had been decimated by war.

Wasn’t the Church of England created by Henry for the sole purpose of “legally” disappearing Catherine? It just seems like such great lengths. Was he that much of an egoist? Like Caligula . . .

And it’s so nice that you think on me 😉 .. . . . I’m okay. I’m getting exhausted and my body hurts and all the normal things, but I am a little afraid now. And trying to pry money out of the twins’ father has been pretty irritating. Mostly I’m nervous about what’s going to happen with my career. I worked really hard to get to a place where I could reliably earn a lower minus middle class income while doing the thing I love the most in the worlds. I don’t care about money, except . . . for 3 littles it’s going to be a constant concern.

I’ve seriously considered picketing solo in front of the big blue Sci building in LA with a sign that says “I want my fucking money back” OR “Scientology hates single mothers”
