I found that seeing where Philosophy has already tread, helps put in context all the soul powers groups, not just the one’s selling their wares, but all the past ones in human history too!

Your personality sounds like mine. It makes me wonder (as a never-in) if there are a lot of people who think “I’m skeptical, I’m smart; let’s just see what this is about,” thinking they know enough of the truth to get some good out of the group, only to find themselves sucked in.

1969…read Dianetics, kids told me “It’s an applied philosophy”. I had been studying Buddhism and having a difficult time applying it, so that rang true for me. They gave me a “Dianetics” book. I went back to college, had a fight with my Dad (Who told me “It’s OUR Morals or NO School”). I pulled down my shade, wrote in lipstick: “Your Morals or NO School? SCREW YOU!” I hitchhiked from Chicago to Los Angeles to American St. Hill, where I started my life as a Scientologist. The whole story is at ToryMagoo44 on YouTube. 🙂 Thankfully, later I apologized to him in a letter right before he had a heart attack and died at ago 52. His nickname (by me) was “Magoo”. 🙂

I remember walking down the street in 1983 and thinking to myself, “Is this all there is to life?” I was at a low point in my life & a prime candidate for the C of $. At that moment a gentleman approached me and asked to do a “Survey” (which was one of the techniques used back in the day to get you interested). It lead to me buying the Dianetics book & signing up for the Comm Course. 28 years later I finally walked away. What lead me to walk away (and get declared from what I hear)? Several factors came in to play – The Cognitive Dissonance was unbearable, the constant regging for more money, more money, more money, the repackaging of the {Tech} & books, etc, etc. But what finally did it for me was seeing loyal, dedicated Scientologists and friends of mine being declared and being ousted from the {Church}. That was the last straw for me. I would ask, “Why are these people being thrown out the door?” I would only be shown their SP declares (Suppressive Person Declare) and be given no verbal explanation for why it occurred. The Declares were completely bogus and complete Bullsh*t. I said as such and was warned that if I did not change my tune that I would soon be joining them. Well, guess what? I joined the SP’s. I have never felt so liberated and in-control of my life as I do now! I immediately went to the Internet (Gasp!) and began reading all of the Forbidden Books that I could get my hands on (Double Gasp!). Looking back on it I cannot imagine how I was sucked in to this cult. I am reading all I can about cults & cult mind control to come to grips with what just occurred in my life. I am also part of a tremendous support group of ex-Scio’s here in my area. We get together & share war stories & have a good time. That has helped immensely, also.

I was in my early 20s when I got involved in Scientology. I was a pretty naïve and trusting kid, rather immature, I would say. After I was in for awhile and on staff, I simply “felt” awful, and wanting to be a good kid, a good Scientologist, I took to blaming myself. I felt guilty about feeling guilty for pushing things like the 2:00pm Thursday game. There was a cognitive dissonance between what I thought was positive in Scientology and what I was actually observing among Scientologists. Unfortunately, I’m the kind of person who has to learn the hard way, and I have to be beaten over the head with a baseball bat before things really sink in. I distanced myself slowly and quietly, even fooling myself that I was actually carefully sliding away. That was how I could escape the mind trap I set up. Once I was out and could safely have my own thoughts without editing them I wondered, “How can I be Clear, and still be so screwed up?” And, “How can people who are NOT Scientologists be so much better off than I am, if I am supposedly Clear?” Once I began allowing this line of inquiry, the flood gates opened.

In reply to Kitz. I can't tell you how many hours I spent in a combine. It's why I know Lebanon so well. I worked for a grass seed farmer outta about that way. In a Pinto I borrowed (which wouldn't go it reverse) :) At the end of the day we got to dunk ourselves in the fire truck, so that was cool. :)
