I am curious what dirt they have on these two that they are afraid to speak out. They were obviously burned by their former cult, and Davis has got to have so much to disclose about Scientology. It could be that, some of the dirt he has, implicates him too much, and he knows he’ll end up in trouble. Mike Rinder and Marty Rathbun both have admitted to many of their past transgressions (I’m sure they didn’t admit ALL they did either), so I wonder why Tommy hasn’t come out and destroyed the cult himself. He may not want to deal with Miscavige’s BS – the smear campaign and the private eyes following them everywhere, etc. But hell, he was ‘man enough’ to stand up and smear everyone else falsely while being a cult member. He needs to stand up now and start telling the truth.

I have never been a Scientologist but was fascinated and entertained by Tommy’s performance on that BBC episode. Having recently read that he left and is lying low as a Bank manager in Texas, here are my two cents:

It sounds like he is still reeling from the experience and trying to put it all together. When you are completely invested in something, body, mind and soul only to find yourself the willing instrument of despotic control and manipulation within system which crushes the most delicate and innocent parts of the human being, that is to say their faith given willingly and with the highest aspirations, it can take some time to pick up the peaces.

It seems the two are stumbling through limbo trying to understand what happened to them and unsure if they wish to maintain their faith, albeit living on a compromised yet quietly submissive platform, or to become the whistle blowers this thread hopes for.

It seems to me a man like Tommy would have a hard time throwing away 24 years of his life and accepting that he was simply made into a fool. He must be trying to salvage something from his experience and is unwilling to part totally with his old life.

He probably wants nothing to do with both the Scientologists or their dissenters, being disgusted with both sides of the coin. The ugliness he has seen is enough to last a lifetime and he probably just wants to move on.

As far as punishment, yes he was a A-hole to a lot of people, but I imagine the experience he is going through now is sufficient punishment. The confusion and loss he must feel is the same as many who leave Scientology but perhaps even more profound. The bigger you are the harder you fall.

I am sure he believed every word of the twisted philosophy he preached, otherwise it would have no effect.

If you would meet him outside of Scientology, you might even find him to be a nice guy. The problem is he has been a Scientologist since he was 17 years old. How much of his personality is his, and how much of it is Scientologies. These are the questions I am sure he is trying to answer himself.
