Alas, Steely Dan does not appear to be playing the Beacon Theatre in NYC in August as they have on the last umpteen tours. But it can still be tons of fun. We New Yorkers are happy to welcome people from even the remotest reaches of upstate New York to our town!

Interestingly, I was looking through Delphi’s website, and found a photo of a stack of books that includes not only 1984 & Animal farm, but another dystopian classic, Fahrenheit 451. It should be noted that while many in the Sea Org may consider education other than LRH’s materials to be useless at best, corrupting at worse, the non-Sea Org people who founded Apple School and Delphi (and apparently still run Delphi) would strongly disagree and feel that a well-rounded education is important. I’m not really sure who really owns & runs Delphi since Martin Samuels was run out (like Snowball the pig in Animal Farm). Thanks. Doesn’t sound too bad a time, especially since the school had a mix of students, and there was no pressure to leave and join the Sea Org. Plus, you had done the work to be able to go to college.
More recent stories show a marked change, which is a shame.

I’m going to be a little vague because I’d like to visit Delphi again for an alumni event and I don’t want to get barred as a troublemaker, so here’s what I will share:
I did not see any Sea Org recruiting while at Delphi. At that time, Delphi was run by Martin Samuels who was one of the semi-autonomous Mission Holders which during the 1970s were powerful & successful, partially because they were not as tightly controlled by the main church as Scientology affiliated organizations now are. Some of the students were from non-Scientologists families so they did not want to be perceived as recruiting. Staff were not Sea Org members, were instructed not to prostylatize Scientology and students did not study Scientology other than Study Tech. Students from Scientology families were asked not to use to use too many Scientology words around the non-Scientologist kids (I once got into trouble for calling another kid a “wog”)
Between 8th – 12 grade I did some of my schooling at Delphi, some at an Scientology affiliated Apple School, and some at a public high school, so I can compare the experience of all three. After high school I attended a university where although I was not aware at the time one of my fellow students was an English major named Tony Ortega.
