However, the Feds have RICO which does allow them to charge organizations as criminals, if they can argue the organization existed entirely or in part for the purpose of committing that crime. So, if this were to somehow go beyond the state level, there are ways to go after organizations, freeze their assets and so on.

As for the state laws, it makes sense on two levels. First, the crimes were the acts of individuals, even if it is a conspiracy, it is still a conspiracy of individuals. Second, criminal law is basically concerned with jailing people. It may impose fines and the like, but for the most part, it doesn’t charge unless someone can go to jail, it is why they don’t charge dead people and why they don’t charge companies as such, there is no person to incarcerate.

Having said that, conspiracy does give them much room to go after higher levels of the organization, even on a state level, so finding a scapegoat may not be the perfect defense the higher echelons imagine it to be. (Just look at the many organized crime trials which attempted the same, and the number of times it failed, especially in recent years when the states and federal criminal prosecutors were given somewhat greater leeway.)

Yeah I remember them going off on how Bob wasn’t really Bob. I tried to say there are a lot of Bob’s and I was giving him the benefit of doubt. Kinda glad I sat back on that. Turns out he really isn’t a closet scientologist. They got that way with me when I posted about working for the Scilon and saying it was “squirrel”. I was asked how long I had been in and how I knew it was squirrel. Now that I get the gist of the attitude here at the Bunker I can see why they thought I may have been a scilon. I didn’t really explain it well at first.

Raise the copy paper budget so the employees don’t have to steal any more from government offices and those mean old Feds will leave you alone.
