Exactly. My point above was that mocking is great for those at the top, and the nuttiness that is Dianetics/CoS/et al. But that in itself doesn’t engage the “good hearted, sweet, nice” people. It is not as easy to dismiss reasoned criticism. I think it’s all good– the criticism AND the mocking.

I totally understand your passion on this subject. I think the problem with getting any real academic work on this subject is that any credible scholar quickly realizes there is no “Hubbard research.” There’s just the fatuous observations of a self-satisfied know-it-all with a lot of money and fawning admirers to burnish his reputation.

I didn’t say we’re not supposed to mock. I said it is easy to mock (hey, I do it) and that there are some people who don’t deserve to be mocked (even though it will happen). And yes, humor is a far more potent weapon than whatever tired old strategies the CoS is still applying these days…
