No worries. It sounds as tho you do your job very well and we should be above it. Most of the world doesn’t execute prisoners, because there are foul ups and in the end murder is murder whether done to a murderer or not. I was thinking after I sent you the last comment about Christians. Here you have a religion that when you think about it, took one of the most horrible ways to be executed to “save” humanity! Now that is a contradiction. lol And I agree that when you do get older your opinions change. I am only 29. So what I may believe now doesn’t mean I will hold the same belief in 20 more years. I probably wont. lol Hell, three to four years ago I was convinced that the New World Order was going to take over the world and we would all have chips lol ok maybe not that bad, but my point is that my world view changes with the times and especially after having discussions like this. That’s EXACTLY the way i feel about it. But you’re right… it’s a beast, and I’d rather we left it well alone. We should be ‘above’ it. However, there is a part of me that says just quietly euthenise them. It’s ok to be a barrel load of contradictions… at the very least it means that you’re giving it some thought, which is what we should be doing.

oh you’re just gorgeous aren’t you!!!! I thought, for a minute, that I was about to throw my own self under the bus (again). I struggle with the death penalty thing (because of what I do for a living) on a daily basis and, in spite of myself, the onset of age brings with it more of a ‘Daily Mail readers’ approach to the issues of the day. But, I know what’s right, at least I think I do. I hope I do, otherwise a whole generation of young people will be graduating with EXACTLY the same opinions as me! 😉

You definately have unarguable valid points in where you mention human rights, burden of proof, and innocent men or women wrongly executed. Sometimes execution is no better then the criminals who perpetrate such crimes. I do think of people like Manson or Cikatilo do not deserve to be on this earth and the very least unable to poison future generations with their maddness and garbage. But that is just my feeling and opinion. But I do agree that if a society does participate in capitol punishment there will always be innocents executed. It is part of a dark beast and as far as executions go that is prolly the darkest beast anyone in society can know without experiencing true horrors on the scale of wars and warcrimes. I am a walking contadiction Hog! thank ya for giving me some food for thought, it wasnt all for naught!

I understand and the feeling is mutal. I do love a good divisive debate. As for death penalty I say yes, only because I feel should anything horrible done to a family member or friend of mine (and I pray I never shall know what that feels like) I would be of the mind to execute that person. But, I will admit that I do not know what it is like to be in that situation and that I may have very diffrent point of should it ever happen. I like to be as honset as possible with everyone here in the Bunker, even if some of my thougts or theorys may be unpopular, gives me the wonderful chance to listen to what others have to say and in todays world, getting different veiwpoints and prespectives is priceless and enlightening.

oh, y’know, I love you lot, all of you, but, in retrospect, I shouldn’t have mentioned the death penalty. It’s divisive, emotive, and futile… even amongst people who otherwise have great respect for each other. I don’t think the death penalty is a good idea, in any scenario. If we’re going to preach human rights, in any area, then we need to be seen to be beyond reproach. The death penalty is a minefield. To which offences do you apply it? Should the burden of proof be greater than for crimes that hold lesser penalties? What would the rest of the world think?… when we’re trying to make them behave in a ‘civilised’ manner? For me…. I would rather 10 guilty people were erroneously freed than one innocent person spent the rest of their lives in prison (or put to death). Just my opinion.
