Thank for the elaborate answer. I agree with you. The fact that he felt he failed, is indeed good indication to his character.

I protest Gerry losing. Joe Childs and Tom Tobin would *never* be running the stories they do if it weren't for Gerry sticking his neck out--------many, many years ago. He should AT THE LEAST get a "Honorary FOUNDING FATHER Award". I love what Joe and Tom have done, don't get me wrong....but Gerry losing?meeeeeeeoooooooooowwwwww. I wanted to see Gerry Vs David Miscavige! Love to ALL and Happy Easter!! :) Tory/Magoo

You must read the final page of Lawrence Wright's book, the Epilogue and final page, reveal absolutely astounding new info.

I'd heard years ago, that Hubbard was trying to deal with body thetans, as late as December 1985.

But I had not heard that LRH thought that he had overall failed, with Scientology! LRH admitted to Sarge, that he'd failed! That's in Wright's book, final pages!

I suppose the down arrows are easy to understand. The Christian world view means accepting that we are only creatures, mere humans, and that while God has given us some real abilities we need to use well we need to trust in God as God and we are not . That means giving up some of our controlling ego, pride, etc. Can you imagine asking COB to give up his trust in LRH tech to make himself a "superhuman" and to renounce his manipulation of people and to give up his geed and to live a more simple lifestyle? With grace it is even possible for COB to have a change of heart but God respects our free will and will not force our obedience or our surrender to Him. So those who know some of what the Christian world view means will resist if they don't choose it. Otherwise why would Jesus have been nailed to a tree? Thanks for the well wishes and yes it is true that many good people who don't share the Christian faith may respect the difference between humility and pride, greed and simplicity, power and control vs. respecting the weak and the simple. Happy Easter to all who share the faith and happy Sunday off to those who do not.

Hubbard told his ranch hand, Sarge Stephen Pfauth, in the last 6 weeks of Hubbard's life, that Hubbard felt he had failed in his job of bringing Scientology to the planet.

If you really know your Hubbard, and knew Ron took his role seriously, he wasn't to himself a con and fraud, but that Ron did think that he failed, and that he admitted this to Sarge, in the final month and a half of his life, I took to be a positive of Hubbard's character.

I'm not a trained psychologist, I think if more details of all the final years of Hubbard's life, and his personal admissions to his closest final group of people around him, would be very important to lay out.

Scientology is a big ongoing operation ,and the private thoughts of Hubbard are extremely important to serious biography history of Hubbard and Scientology.

I'm sure Wright edited all of what Sarge told Wright, there's likely even more, I've heard Wright in some of his interviews offer up other info that isn't in his book, and also there is Pat Broeker, there are many many others who knew Hubbard in those moments when Hubbard went psychologically spluey and either dumped on other people or in moments like his admission to Sarge, he went spluey and condemnatory on even himself.

That Hubbard went condemnatory on himself, I think is so important, and a positive, in that it shows he could be very hard on himself, but I'm not a psych, and I mean the best when I say a trained smart psychologist who knows human nature.
