It’s amazing to see that Snake OIL marketing is still alive and hitting the 21st century delivery system in full force. Although, I do think DM and his minions take it a bit too literally. This type of approach is a real, and almost dead craft. It takes real talent to write that level of schnizle.

The only way to get through that email from Barbara, aka. the PR agency pros or CC intern; is to imagine a fancy mustached chap, on a soap box, dressed the part of a dandy, with theatans swirling around him (actually these would be coffee tins spray glued with glitter, attached to fishing poles with SO staffers in janitorial suits running about, “oooOohOOOO’ing” as they go,) and Tiny-fists standing below him, arms crossed ensuring that each word. About seeing people getting wins, all I can say is I’d bet there are people who could give you some other ways to look at that. The downside is for real detailed explanations, they’d probably be psychologists or something like that, and you might not trust them either. One thing I’d say for certain is that $cientologists can spend a lot of time in altered mind states including hypnotized. In that condition how could you not have wins from time to time? I guess what I think is if you really start believing you’ve been given some ability to do something you couldn’t do before, you’re likely to be able do it even if the way you learned to believe it was invalid.

Of course after you had some different ways of looking at it you’d still have to decide between them but choices are a good thing right? 😉 You’ve seen fire-walking right? I’ve heard a bunch of different reasons why it’s supposed to work. Ancestor spirits, magic, mental power or physics are the ones I can think of. They all work but that doesn’t mean they’re all true. Anyways that’s how I see it.

When I was a boy in the suburbs of Chicago I had a run in with a local martial arts place that taught a combination of 8 different martial arts and spices all wrapped up by a nice Korean man.

Well things started to get funny, I understood the strict discipline, but bow to everyone individually descending order of rank every time you enter or leave a room. Next I heard that the ‘Grandmaster’ is supposed to get a cash gift on his birthday. Now that’s odd…maybe it is an eastern culture thing. And the list started to grow…
– encouraging students to live in shared housing
– sign up for ‘special olympic’ course to learn faster
– don’t drive flashy cars – you should be modest
– refinance house/car for course fees
– special breathing exercises given to people who smoke cigs to clear lungs so they can smoke and not worry
– odd – they only drunk soda from a can if they has a straw for hygiene reasons

Anyway the martial arts group of schools still exists – the owner is out of Federal Prison for tax evasion and likes to change the School/Style name every 10 years or so.

I am being slightly cautious because aside from that the techniques and physical training are very effective and these guys are bad ass. But I got lucky early when “Assistant District Head Instructor Dan” told me I had a test coming and hewshould not have and then lied to cover it up in front of “District Head Instructor Larry”.
All respect was gone and I called the guy a liar and left for good – lucky escape looking back.
