I left Scientology a long time ago. But when I was in, I had an OT friend who seemed to really look up to me based on my musical ability. He told me never to limit my reading material. When I asked him about "OT", he recommended the PDC ( Philadelphia Doctorate Course) lectures.
I didn't think so at the time, but in retrospect, it seems like he was covertly warning me not to waste my money on the OT levels. He was OT IIIX, OTVII EP, and I remember him as proof that Scientology does not necessarily wipe away the humanity from one's soul. You can't always assume that.
My opinion is based on my personal experience, not the writings of L Ron Hubbard ... the map is not the territory.

Exterrier, love this post. What caught my eye are "empathy and curiosity". I have always been the curious sort and you just can't be curious about anything other than Hubard's words. Ask other questions or question at all regards to the church, you're in trouble. They shut off or prohibit empathy and curiosity so you can be the robot they want and need, for their control and continuance.

In reply to <a href="https://tonyortega.org/2012/12/24/scientologys-2012-in-review-springtime-for-miscavige/comment-page-1/#comment-69637">ziontologist</a>.

I disagree Zio. The long time scientologists I know who stayed in are very, very unfortunately stunted human beings, or "novis humanis". And where they are stunted are in the two realms of empathy and curiosity. The disconnection policy alone totally refutes your assertion that they are "just like anyone else". The one person I know who tries to hold on to her humanity is so emotionally crushed, and cries constantly. Yet she disconnects from close friends and family at orders of the church due to FEAR, the only operative emotion that humis novi's are allowed to recognize. The rest is dismissed as H, E and R, as you know. Human Emotion and Reaction, which is a sneer and smear term that the church uses to put down humanity and particularly empathy, which is the most useless emotion of all for those who are on a trillion year journey to become god, masters of all space and time through eternity.
Once I was told that I was not allowed to have one of my favorite books around, William Bramley's Gods of Eden, or to speak to _______, I realized that I was in an intellectually and emotionally stunted cult, and began making plans to leave quietly. I recommend that you do the same, Zio.
