That’s true. The Baker Act was used several times with an old friend of mine who was bipolar and would not accept help from her parents and family (who took her in at 35 yo when her world spun out of control.) Actually, the final time when she was committed by the courts for long term eval. and got some help was instigated by a priest. Not sure he had the authority to invoke Baker, probably done by the police on his say-so.

The medical professionals SHOULD have done something to help. However, we know the Scion’s DID something to harm her. Seriously, can we really blame the hospital staff? Did they know she would be mistreated? And die as a result of the cult’s craziness? Coulda-woulda-shoulda….. I’m sure the Doctors and Nurses have lived with the guilt all these years.

The police (correctly) listened to the priest who had talked to Laura for 2 hours. The hospital believed Lisa’s “Church” (as defined by IRS) had her best interest at heart.

I recall Dini Petty as a TV talk show host in Toronto in the ’70s & ’80s. But I didn’t know she was ever a Scientologist, visible or otherwise. I was never much of a fan, but she was well known in Toronto & probably elsewhere in Canada.
I’m also reminded of Larry Evoy who fronted Toronto band Edward Bear. He was definitely a visible Scientologist, especially in the ’70s, at least in Canada. For a long time he was a Co$ poster boy whose face & name appeared regularly for years in magazine ads for Scientology.
And he’d reportedly sometimes proselytize for Scientology to audiences while onstage doing Edward Bear gigs. He apparently became disenchanted with the Church at some point later on, & is no longer a Co$ poster boy/R n R recruiter.

IMO whether you are Miscavige, his sister Denise, her husband, Tom Brennan or the other people who helped cause this and/or cover this up (within and without organized scientology) you need to brace yourself for this is not over.

If you still think Scientology has anything to do with religion you are obviously not inquiring enough.
