I'm not sure how much any of you know about Mormonism's unique look at life, but some of it sounds not too disimilar from Hubbard's cosmology. Basically, in Mormonism, God is a perfected man. He lives near the star Kolob somewhere in outer space. He has a wife. Human beings are eternal, in the sense that they are made from what Mormon founder Joseph Smith called "intelligence". By having marital relations with his wife, whose job it is to give birth to all these spirits, Elohim has created all human beings. All good Mormon men will become exalted and become gods of their own universes. Their wives will become goddesses, queens and priestesses to their husbands.

Hi MWM,

I can understand where you are coming from, but the idea of right-wing Scientology is not speculation on my part. It is observation. We do have a lot of religious people in the US.

As a result many of our politicians are religious. Scientology can easily play the "religious persecution" card against them and they have a hard time refuting it.

I am not saying that being religious is a good or bad thing, I am just saying it makes them more susceptible to the sympathy ploy from Scientology.

I hope they come back soon. I miss them a lot. I would do everything I could to take care of them. At the very least I would like to see my little brother get out of there. He can always stay with me.

In reply to <a href="https://tonyortega.org/2012/11/06/scientology-and-the-presidential-election/comment-page-1/#comment-61842">N. Graham</a>.

N. Graham, I wasn't suggesting that you personally were making fun of people who smile, wave, bake cookies, etc...the truth is, I wasn't trying to insult you. It was my attempt to show how comments can spur others to not only agree, but to take things even further. Hence, the Not Midwest Mom was representative of those people who chime in with a more extreme stance.

To be honest, I have been mocked for smiling too much by some people. (No, I don't do it at inappropriate times.) I had a neighbor a few years ago say at a party how evil all Republicans were etc. and when I told her that I was a Republican, she asked me to leave. She added, "I should have known. You smile too much, like an idiot, and wave to everyone." She handed me the plate of cookies that I brought and said they were "poisoned with white sugar and white flour - the reason why poor white trash is obese and diabetic."

Your comments reminded me of things she had said about Fox, Rush, etc., I apologize.. I had no intention of being unkind and am very sorry for doing so. I did a very poor job of trying to get a point across and regret trying to do so with what I thought was humorous, but was not.

I didn't misspell Downton Abbey, though. It is a BBC mini series which PBS carries, as well. You may even have some DVD's in your library, but if not, you can read more about it via Google. Maggie Smith is fantastic and I think that you would enjoy her humor in this program. There is also a twitter site @TheDowagerSays that is devoted to her character's style of wit.

You are absolutely correct that I need to quell my commentary, which ironically and to my own embarrassment, I not displaying by evidence of this post.

Best wishes to you and again, my sincere apologies, N. Graham.
