“Hearsay” is when you are citing a statement by somebody else as purported evidence that the statement is true. It is not “hearsay” when you are citing a statement as evidence for the fact that “talking did occur”; it is your personal knowledge that the talking did occur (even if it is not within your knowledge whether or not anything that was said is true).
