Making fun of anyone’s religious beliefs is a losing battle. The counter-argument is that Christians believe that the son of god was born from a woman who never had sexual intercourse and rose from the dead. It could be argued that there are reference to space ships in the Bible ( Ezekiel’s wheels ? ) blah blah blah. People are free to believe in crazy stuff. Maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not, but who cares? The ONLY thing that is important is this: Does your church commit acts unbecoming of a church? I know Scientology does, having been a member in the late sixties early seventies I witnessed it first hand ( I witnessed cultish behavior, but nothing more serious than what I’ve read about it ).

I was born and partly grew up in the Far East, and I find Hubbard’s lectures on the “whole track” no stranger than the Buddhist cosmologies or the Vedic/Hindu statements about “World Ages” (Yugas) that have existed in the past, not to mention Christian and Gnostic cosmological ideas.

Carl Jung, one of the founders of psychoanalysis, theorized the existence of a “collective unconscious” that is common to all human beings, based on his observation of dreams and fantasies, his own and others. He thought he observed the same “archetypes” appearing over and over again in the mentation of people from various cultures.

To me, that provides a context for examining these kind of ideas. One question it raises is, why do similar ideas appear around the world, in religions, folklore, and mythology?
