Talking Scientology with actor and podcaster Ethan McKinley

Ethan_McKinley

For those of you who didn’t see it posted in the comments last night by a vigilant reader, we’re going to put up the interview we did yesterday with Ethan McKinley.

Ethan’s an actor in London who told us that he hit upon the idea of making videos and podcasts as a way to meet and talk to interesting people while he’s working on getting new roles. What a smart lad he is. He’s talked to some really fascinating people, and he was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Scientology.

This was a nice warmup for us. Tonight we’ll be doing a two hour show with Ed Opperman for his Opperman Report. Ed’s a private investigator, so we’ll be interested to see what he thinks about Scientology’s hijinks with private eyes.

Until then, here’s the segment with Ethan McKinley…

The NAFC refiles its massive lawsuit against Scientology

As promised, the National Association of Forensic Counselors refiled its massive lawsuit alleging trademark violations against Scientology, its leader David Miscavige, and 38 other defendants.

This is the lawsuit, you’ll remember, that accuses Scientology and its drug rehab network, Narconon, of misusing the NAFC’s logo and making false claims that its employees had received NAFC certifications in order to convince the public that Narconon’s employees are properly licensed as drug counselors.

The NAFC and its president, Karla Taylor, had originally filed its lawsuit against 82 defendants in Oklahoma, because that’s where Scientology has its flagship rehab facility, Narconon Arrowhead. But Miscavige successfully argued that he should be dropped from the lawsuit because he lives and works primarily in California, and the NAFC is in Indiana, so he should not be a party to a lawsuit filed in a third, and unrelated state, Oklahoma.

So now, NAFC has refiled against Miscavige in its home state of Indiana, and with the help of the Indianapolis law firm of Saeed and Little. That name should be familiar — Jonathan Little handles numerous lawsuits against Narconon, and was featured in yesterday’s blog post.

So give the new complaint a look and let us know if you spot anything that strikes you as particularly interesting.

NAFC v. Scientology; New complaint filed in Indiana

Scientology in Ireland stays barely alive

Ireland continues to be one of the very few countries in the world that forces Scientology to open its books every year and show detailed information about its financial health, and the new annual report became available yesterday. The Irish Times put a very generous headline on its write-up, making it sound like Scientology was actually gaining ground.

The truth is, Scientology in Ireland is still a meager thing, with only one mission operating, in Dublin. And the mission is running a deficit in its members’ fund of €173,000. But in the twelve months ending in April 2015, it had received €86,716 in donations from its members, up from the 2014 total of €49,138.

We’re sure David Miscavige will be thrilled.

“I doubt that this increase in ‘donations’ represents any genuine expansion, rather their existing membership redoing old Bridge steps as per Golden Age of Tech 2,” says Pete Griffiths, who keeps a close watch on Scientology in Ireland.

Said the Times… “The organisation, which lists its principal activities as ‘the operation of a church and the provision of religious services,’ recorded a full-year deficit after providing for depreciation of €19. This compared with a deficit of €35,594 in 2014.”

But perhaps our favorite bit was this paragraph…

In terms of possible risks that might impact on the company’s financial position, the directors listed “uncertainty of continued services due to general society problems.”

Ah, that’s Scientology for certain. If people aren’t signing up for services, it’s not Scientology’s fault!

Tony trying to explain Dianetics. Tony is brave.

  • http://www.tonyortega.org/ DodoTheLaser

Ed asked if Hubbard had intelligence background. Tony says may be some low level, but no real evidence of any significance. Ridiculous statements from scientology about Hubbard taking down black majick and blah bla, want you to believe otherwise.

Now talking about Dianetics and how talking about stuff can make people feel better, but there is no science and prenatal silly stuff. 50’s were tough for Hubbard.

Dianetics and bankruptcy, 1952, introduction of scientology, earlier supposed memories.

  • http://www.tonyortega.org/ DodoTheLaser

Hubbard was a great salesman. Heh. Dentist accident. Hubbard goes transcendental.

  • TheHoleDoesNotExist

Author Hubert credited Hubbard with taking other people’s ideas and making them into something new. Tony sez Hubbard was a great salesman.

    • TheHoleDoesNotExist

I will interject that even the “new” part was other people that contributed over the decades. I will give Hubbard credit for typing on butcher paper though. That was new And original.:)

  • Observer

Aww, Hubbard resented being thought of as a crank!

  • http://www.tonyortega.org/ DodoTheLaser

Dianetics was popular, but also got a lot of criticism. Hubbard didn’t like it. Started information control thing.

  • TheHoleDoesNotExist

These are my heroes. Owe them so much. Amazing the changes they forged against the machine.

  • http://www.tonyortega.org/ DodoTheLaser

Harassment of critics is built in in scientology and it came from Hubbard. It’s still going on.

Which means that the more powerful and knowledgeable – by Scientology’s own definition of those words – a Scientologist is, the more likely they are to leave $cientology.

He went right into the gritty details and when Tony wrote of how the OSA lady was actually chasing Tory through LAX, that sealed it for me. I knew Tony was the one to tell Scientology history.

When a journalist writes about OSA chasing Tory through LAX, that was the biggest breath of fresh air truth I’d ever read, I knew the outside world was starting to understand the desperation of Scientology.

OK, I won’t give into Frodis. I’ve only heard bits and pieces about the Sheriff, but now that I know there’s a Tony connection, I’m going there. I don’t know how I missed that, after nearly 4 years of Tony-watching.

        • Frodis73

Oooh! Prepare to be outraged Sherb. The sherriff is a total and complete ass. You will be very upset by the things this guy has gotten away with. Def a rabbit hole worth reading about though as there are more like him out there.
Also, l have to laugh about b4a’s comment about the making a murderer rabbit hole…a hole that is long, dark and twisty and still being dug and will leave you disgusted with the legal system. We are used to that though from watching scientology.

          • beauty for ashes

Bwaaahaaaaaaa!!!!!! you caught me! You know I like to blame you, but I know I am responsible for my own rabbit hole problems! Thank God we are not he only one obsessed. PS~watched every damn one of Casey Martinez’s videos. I want that woman at my Social security disability hearing as my anger translator!!!

            • Frodis73

Wow, that’s impressive! I have to check in w/her as it’s been a couple weeks and I know she will have the latest. i’d love to have her on my side in any type of fight like that. She would be great for your ssi hearing that’s for sure.
I just watched something else interesting, while not a rabbit hole exactly, it’s still a lot of info. the documentary “the hunting ground” is avail on netflix now. While I didn’t really learn anything new, putting faces to names really brings the story home. it’s about the epidemic of sexual assault and rape in college.
eta-posed before I was done…disqus, bite me. Anyway, check it out if you haven’t seen it. I want to find up what is up with the guy that was 2015 first draft pick…where he’s at, etc. makes me so mad that this predator gets away with it and now he’s going to be rich and famous. I hope karma gets him.

            • beauty for ashes

I don’t have Netflix. Someone got away with posting the entire series in like 96 parts or something ridiculous like that on Youtube . Thank Gog, I don’t think I can handle any more true crime stories. :)

          • Sherbet

Thanks, Frodis. I’ll give it all a look.

    • ReallyMGM

I remember watching Sheriff Joe’s “Jail Cam” back in the day. It was weird. Lots of drunks on the weekends getting their mugshots taken.

      • Sherbet

He came to my attention first with the pink prison jumpsuits.

It’s no wonder Scientologists can’t confront and/or shatter suppression–they can’t even recognize it.

      • Sherbet

If suppression has money in hand…

      • http://www.tonyortega.org/ DodoTheLaser

Right! Besides, Ross looks David Duchovny’s brother and Carrie has pink in her hair. All the SP signs.

    • http://www.tonyortega.org/ DodoTheLaser

I am disappoint no OT’s and their new super E-meters spotted these two SP wog infiltrators. I mean, they even have covert hostility 1.1 smiles. How hard can it be to spot an SP? I suppose OT 16 will handle that.

  • L. Wrong Hubturd

Mama Dee took me by the Flag Mill tonight. She says this is where they make all the furniture. There was ONE window not frosted over, so I parked the car and ran up to peak inside.

      • L. Wrong Hubturd

That’s what I wanna know too.

They were all watching the Kirsty Alley pole running ceremony?

      • chuckbeattyexseaorg75to03

MOrnings are study/”ehancement”/co-auditing time slot. Afternoons up til 9:30pm-ish is “decks” (manual labor) time.

Sat and Sun have some slight differences.

What would be good, is watching for the RPF daily bus arrival in the just after lunch time slot with the RPF bus pulls up to unload the RPFers who will go into the Mill for woodworking duties.

It might also be that the majority of the RPFers are staying at the Hacienda.

If local Clearwater Scientology-observers wish to really be “on the ball” watching ongoing RPF history, then watch for the times that the RPF bus(s) leave the Hacienda Gardens housing complex where the RPFers live and sleep.

They will send a crew to the Mill for duty, daily, like clockwork, per their exact routine and always repeating daily tight schedules.

The Scientology buses of RPFers are like clockwork.

        • http://www.tonyortega.org/ DodoTheLaser

          Just wow.

    • chuckbeattyexseaorg75to03

      Thankyou for being so observant.

I’ve thought many hours of what value Scientology “Sea Org” (lifer staff, their fake religious order staffers) life had for me, and working those final years in the RPF (prison detail for the ones wishing to leave, as I was one of those who wanted out) it was like advanced shop class.

I learned woodworking equipment, and today I have my own tools and I enjoy making small tables and various nicknacks for holding books,Ipads, and various shelves and stands.

I learned gardening (farm work), I got to hang out with pigs, chickens, real turkeys and farm crops, fruit trees, olive trees (Happy Valley’s olive trees) and grape vines that made great tasting grapes.

What’s so odd is going down the supposed ladder in the Scientology staffer hierarchy is actually a good way to get out of the white collar significance gooblygook of Hubbard’s Scientology theory and administrative nonsense, and back to normal life real things.

I worked in and around the PAC (LA complex) Mill a lot in my final RPF years in LA, and actually it was more normalizing and real than living in the theoretical world of Hubbard’s gobblygook, so leaving the Sea Org via the RPF had it’s sidebenefits.

Seeing the old RPF Mill at Clearwater brings to mind those types of sentiments for me, I was on the Happy Valley RPF for 4 1/2 years then the PAC RPF in LA for about 2 years (about 7 years all total).

Happy Easter, Bunkeroos. May all your baskets be filled with quality chocolate Easter bunnies (not crappy hollow ones from Walgreen’s), and may your cats not try to eat the plastic basket grass, and may your kiddos find all the hidden eggs and not overlook any, causing them to turn into noxious science experiments over the next few months — the eggs, not the kiddos. And if you’re the religious type, may that work out for you tomorrow, too.

      • beauty for ashes

Wait isn’t Secord a chocolate laxative?

        • daisy

I do not think so, – that laxative was called ex-lax , surfax is a stool softener, Laura Secord was a war heroine in the 1812 war walking over 20 miles in enemy territory to warn the British the Americans were coming. I think the chocolate was named after her.

          • beauty for ashes

Secor was apparently the name. They talk about it a lot on Mad Men. F5 for vintage ad

Thank you, I really appreciate it. in about a month my sister will be going to mexico. She wants to have all her appointments set with all the offices she needs to go to, and her husband gets his cast off and be okay. Oh and a translator too. Sounds like a lot right? I’m really worried about her. please pray for her too. I literally don’t understand how she can handle all that while having the stressful life she already has. I have my ups and downs. But between you and me, I started seeing a therapist again a few weeks ago. I’m pretty proud of myself for being proactive. I really wanted to stay in my little bubble, but I just couldn’t handle everything. Especially when my car died. Which is still sitting without tags in my driveway waiting for me to let go and donate it. :) Happy Easter Daisy and thank you for reminding me to talk to people!

            • daisy

Of course I will continue to pray for you and your family. Your sister sure has and will continue to have a lot on her plate. Wow brave girl , I am glad she will have her husband and translator with her. I am sure it is not dangerous but it is good to have witnesses and support at her side. I am very glad you were smart enough to know you needed help ( who wouldn’t ) with your problems. I think about how you are doing everyday and delighted that you post most days. Keep doing all the right things. Happy Easter to you as well.

I don’t know, but since Woofy Clara found the baby bunnies a few days ago, it seems like it might be tadpole season, too. It is. • Juicer77

Apparently it’s been pulled from the film festival. I honor Mr. DeNiro trying to keep the discussion open and look at different points of view. But when they saw the film and the whackadoodle “science” behind it, they decided it added noting of quality to the discussion. http://www.thewrap.com/robert-de-niro-pulls-anti-vaccination-documentary-from-tribeca-film-festival/

He has an autistic child. I wonder if he had bought into this crap, and then got schooled about it.
The statement on cancelling was weird.:
“De Niro, who has a child with autism, said he had hoped to provide an opportunity for conversation around an issue “that is deeply personal to me and my family.”

However, he said after he and Tribeca organizers reviewed it, “We do not believe it contributes to or furthers the discussion I had hoped for.” He said members of the scientific community also had reviewed it with him.

So now, NAFC has refiled against Miscavige in its home state of Indiana,

You know that the Narconon program is, where required, licensed by state
health agencies as drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and that the
Narconon program has received CARF accreditation

I love it when a plan comes together… Using accreditations to try to bolster the “authority” of the quack narCONon front for the criminal organisation known as the “church” of $cientology is going to go down reeeal well in this lawsuit.

Interesting looking at the employee reviews. Plenty of positive ones, though somehow smelling of BS. Knowing what we know about Scientology run companies the negative ones sound more convincing. Just to give one as an example [Smoking, swearing, being super-nice at interview but a different story once you are employed, cavalier attitude to health & safety; all typical of a Scientology scenario]:

Extremely unprofessional and disorganized company. The boss rarely available and always distracted.

All sorts of cussing, brazenly throwing F-bombs and name calling all over. F-bomb used in every sentence by a LOT of the people that goes from one end of the building to the other so there is no way to not hear it, and using God’s and Jesus’ name. They seem to not know how to communicate unless there is swearing involved.

The office supplies are stored in the smoking room (garage), potentially life threatening to a non-smoker with asthma, smoke filtered into the office daily.

The office’s only source of heat is a small oil-filled radiant heat tower that took 4 hours to warm up the room, if it warmed up at all. Some days it did not.

The treasury manager, while she seems super nice during the interview is very different once you get on the job, she rules with an iron fist even though she says in the beginning that they are “flexible”.
I tried for three weeks to get the tools I needed to do my job and never got them.

There is a lot of favoritism and negative treatment of the unfavored.

One incident I witnessed was the owner referring to women as “B*tches” several times. Obviously believing this was acceptable behavior as he said it in front of several of the female employees.
Another situation was an employee made a mistake so the owner tried to take money out of an employees check, when that did not work, he RAGED at her “Don’t do it again or you will find yourself outside with my foot up your a**!!!!”.
