If you mean Scientology inspires anger then that is far better than callous disregard for human beings.

Your common-or-garden con artist can only deal small groups at at any one time. There are so many marks, but only one predator. This limits their productivity.

The trick that gets con artists into the big time is somehow persuading their victims to believe in the con to the extent that they do the job for them , hand over the money, and thank them for the privilege.

Really believing in his own con enabled him to convince others. However, he also made another, common, mistake.

I was once told by a member of the City of London Fraud Squad most con artists are caught because they cannot bear to abandon a lucrative con, an milk it for far too long, giving the police time to close in.

While Hubbard was never arrested (except, briefly, for cheque fraud) he still stayed in the game for far too long, and it destroyed his physical health and his mind. In a sense, he caught, and punished, himself.

I have always had the impression that, on several occasions he tried to ‘retire’ from day-to-day involvement with the CofS to become a somewhat distant figurehead for an organisation that ran itself while he played with the money it brought him.

For one reason or another he just couldn’t pull this off and his inability to escape from the organisation he had created in his own image, destroyed him.

Oh, he has the best stories! You just may have heard a few new ones, too, coming into the tail end of the book tour. He saved the best for last. I was at the NY event, so fabulous that was. He packed the house.
Truly, I couldn’t pound out five sentences, so I very quickly learned how hard that live blogging thing is.

Breyers sugar free vanilla low carb is the best. Don’t try anything with chocolate in it, unless you are prepared to have rude intestines afterwards. However the sugar free syrup I added is sweetened with splenda instead of malitol. Also I have all sweeteners with _itol at the end to upset my stomach.
Also, sucks about the oedema, and sugar free living is hard! Just this morning someone presented me with mini eclairs. Totally fell off the wagon!
